I actually don't know anyone called Kobe apart from Kobe Bryant and he was named after the beef, so I don't know it as having any specific cultural associations. When someone says Kobe I think of the city in Japan. I was just making an easy joke and not trying to offend.

And as far as I'm aware, Kobe is the name of city in Japan, not a Japanese given name. So it seems as if it isn't really a name from that culture but a place related to that culture - like calling a boy Clermont-Ferrand because their father is French or a daughter Malaga because they have a Spanish grandma.

God, some people are being utter twats on this thread.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/08/2018 10:18

Maybe choose a name of another grandpa?

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2018 10:16

Op is there any other culture to be represented that you might want to take a middle from?

GinIsIn · 30/08/2018 10:08

The Kobe I know genuinely has the middle name Bryant - they are an American family who are basketball obsessed!

backstreetboysareback · 30/08/2018 10:04

Culture is Japanese and baby will be named after dh's grandpa.
I love the idea of a longer middle name but can't find anything I think will fit or I like enough.
I've never heard of ladbaby Confused

Google suggests it might be Swahili for tortoise or Hebrew as a shortening of Yahweh. The name is most popular in America. Kobe Bryant, the most famous Kobe, is named after the beef.

I know two Kobes. Nothing cultural about the choices. White, loosely C of E families. Siblings are Hunter and Braydon respectively.

Is it a reflection of your culture op?

Heratnumber7 · 30/08/2018 08:17

What culture is Kobe from?

ItsJustASimpleLine · 30/08/2018 07:47

On Facebook LadBaby just named his kid Kobe Notts rather then Kobe Knox behind his wife's back.

I like Kobe as a name to be clear and there's been some great options suggested on her for a middle name. Good luck.

@Fucksgiven - you beat me to it!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2018 22:51

@vitaminC just kobe but I think you are right about a longer middle name suiting more.

For those saying beef, grill, byrant, would you make fun of names from any other culture? Hmm

Cruggs · 29/08/2018 22:19

Beef 🤣🤣🤣

vitaminC · 29/08/2018 22:18

Will he be Jacob/Jakob, or just Kobe?

I really think a longer middle name would sound best:
Kobe Bartholomew
Kobe Alexander
Kobe Maximilian
Kobe Matthias
Kobe Ignatius
