How is it pronounced OP? Is it like Kobe Bryant or more Ko-bay as others have said?

I think if it’s the first one Edward or Alexander work well but if it’s the send I’d go with Edward.

JanewaysBun · 14/02/2021 10:38

I wouldn't use it due to kobe Bryant being so prevalent and his "problematic" nature

user1493494961 · 13/02/2021 18:24

I think Kobe Alexander works well.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/02/2021 08:18

There are some unnecessarily snarky comments on here tbh.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/02/2021 08:17

Isaac immediately sprung to mind

Ellada19 · 12/02/2021 21:09

Kobe Lamar
Kobe James
Kobe Derrick
Kobe Thomas

Anything with 2 syllables sounds good. Do you have any family names you could use? I like grandparents names for middles.

Kanaloa · 12/02/2021 13:11

I used to know a little boy named Cobey, so it doesn’t strike me as that outlandish. He was white British and pronounced it to rhyme with Toby, not sure if it’s the same with Kobe. I think Kobe Nicholas is the best from your list, it flows nicely.

xmalteser · 12/02/2021 00:56

We have Kobe Leo

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 24/01/2021 04:16

If you are going to stick with it, from your middle name suggestions:
Kobe joules - i don't like this
Kobe Benjamin - like but the 2 'b' sound together make it a bit hard to say
Kobe Edward - sounds great
Kobe Nicholas sounds great
Kobe Walter - Walter isn't very nice at all, sounds very wet and weak
Kobe chase - I think Kobe needs a more established, traditional, strong name as a middle and Chasr isn't any of these things.

Love a PP suggestion of Kobe Sebastian

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 24/01/2021 04:13

Kobe gets very negative feedback on MN, I have seen it mentioned on here a few times and absolutely ripped to shreds each time. I think it is because it LOOKS made up even if it isn't, and also a lot of people will just think of Kobe Bryant especially as he's been in the news recently since his tragic death last year. From what I read on the other threads Kobe isnt a name in Japan but the name of a city and a type of food? So people don't give it the same respect as they would a well-established name from another culture. I personally think it sounds nice but i'd be worried you'd have to deal with judgey snobs in the future if MN boards are anything to go by? Is there another name you like or are you set on Kobe? I mean I like it but it sounds like the mean comments have already given you a wobble?

partyatthepalace · 23/01/2021 22:28

TBH I would call him Jacob and use Kobe as an nn so he has options.

But otherwise I’d give him a more classic middle name - with 3 /4 syllables if your surname is - Nathaniel, Gabriel, Tobias etc

Notmulan · 23/01/2021 21:35

We have a Jacob, I heard someone say hello Jakey Cakey and shuddered in horror. Decided coby could be a shortened version. I think it’s quite sweet. If you used Coby as a spelling it’s slightly less bovine too

I liked the idea of Lawrence as a middle name (suggested before)
Or Oliver
Or James

SWLee · 23/01/2021 19:42

I know this thread is old, but i thought i'd chip in.
It is Swahili for Tortoise or Turtle 😊
I am considering this name because my mother in law in Kenyan and I love Japan, I've been to Kobe. In Japanese it means God's Door.
I am still stuck on a middle name.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/09/2018 08:01

Wax - don't be do unpleasant - kids tease over nama, whether it's unusual, old fashioned, the same as a TV or film character (all those girls with a Disney film character?), rhymes with something else... There's no such thing as a 'super name' for God's sake, what a daft comment.

Shadow1234 · 08/09/2018 23:38

Kobe Shay
Kobe Reed
Kobe Lee

furrymuffin · 03/09/2018 23:13

Kobe ray

Rockbird · 01/09/2018 18:26

Kobe Nicholas works well

flapjackfairy · 30/08/2018 22:50

Kobe James for me

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/08/2018 22:43

And her child is presumably going to hear jokes like that all his life.

I guess that depends on whether he runs into a lot of ass-wipes that think they are superior because their DC are called George and Harry.

PineapplePower · 30/08/2018 22:38

Can people please stop with the unfunny digs at names from another culture?

Kobe isn’t a Japanese name though, it’s thoroughly American. It’s the equivalent of calling your child Paris or Brooklyn.

And her child is presumably going to hear jokes like that all his life.

Biscuitsneeded · 30/08/2018 22:26

Kobe John. Unfussy and it sounds nice.

ViserionTheDragon · 30/08/2018 22:23

Michael

StoatOfManyColours · 30/08/2018 15:56

I love Kobe. Are there any other Japanese names in contention for the middle name, or are you definitely wanting to go British for that?

If your surname is one syllable how about Dominic?

rainingcatsanddog · 30/08/2018 12:52

I think most dual nationalities avoid Ben as it means excrement in Japanese.

Out of the others, Edward with a Japanese accent would be too different to the English pronunciation for me. (Kind of "Edo-wah-doh") The others like Nicholas work well though

iklboo · 30/08/2018 12:50

I was going to say "wan Kenobi" too
