DH set on girls name - no discussion

I thought I was initially expecting a boy - just a feeling - so had a few names in mind after first scan showed that everything looked ok. DH didn’t like my favourite boys name but we agreed on either Matthew or Aaron. He wasn’t that keen on Matthew either but was happy for me to choose if it was a boy.

We subsequently found out that we are having a girl. He liked the name Anna which I agreed was nice and could be added to our list. He now refers to bump as Anna and won’t even consider any other girls names. He says that we agreed on the name but I only recall agreeing to it being on the shortlist.

I feel like it is such a huge decision and we haven’t considered all options.

So just wanted to see what you guys think of Anna?

I think you need to discuss again.

Dh and I had a deal that we’d each pick a name for dc1; I picked a boy name and he picked a girl name. We didn’t find out the sex, so when she was born, she was immediately dh’s choice. That was fair enough as we did have a deal and we’d picked names we were both fine with. When dc2 came along though, we did find out the sex and chose a name we were both happy with. I think that is a better way to do it tbh.

I absolutely adore the name Anna. It is one of my absolute favourites.

But she is your baby, not just his, and you need to choose a name you both like.

AnyaMoondial · 29/08/2018 16:42

I think Anna is pretty much the perfect girls name, but she’s your daughter so it has to be right for both of you. Agree with pp that you’re going through the labour so you get the last say. Always.

MrsMolehillMountain · 29/08/2018 16:36

Your DH needs to discuss like an adult.
Anna is a pretty dull name but as a PP said, it's not about what we think of the name. It's about telling you that your husband is BU!!

Anna is a beautiful name but he’s being a twat by insisting on it if you aren’t sure. Tell him you want to consider others

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 29/08/2018 16:35

Whilst it is a lovely name, you’re obviously not in love so back to the drawing board it should be.

Flamingosnbears · 29/08/2018 16:34

Lovely classic name with lots of nickname options, but if your not sure you need to discuss it further...

Pondering1 · 29/08/2018 16:34

It's not whether we like Anna, but more that one of your first important JOINT parenting decisions has been decided by your OH....

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 29/08/2018 16:34

Not Anna, if he won’t discuss like adults say that you get the choose.

DH tried to win with Archie for DS and I held to my guns. You have gone through the whole nine months and labour - YOU GET TO HAVE LAST SAY.
