DH set on girls name - no discussion

I thought I was initially expecting a boy - just a feeling - so had a few names in mind after first scan showed that everything looked ok. DH didn’t like my favourite boys name but we agreed on either Matthew or Aaron. He wasn’t that keen on Matthew either but was happy for me to choose if it was a boy.

We subsequently found out that we are having a girl. He liked the name Anna which I agreed was nice and could be added to our list. He now refers to bump as Anna and won’t even consider any other girls names. He says that we agreed on the name but I only recall agreeing to it being on the shortlist.

I feel like it is such a huge decision and we haven’t considered all options.

So just wanted to see what you guys think of Anna?

@PenelopeThePufferfish. Annabel is actually where we got Anna for! Lol 😀

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:27

@OrdinarySnowflake. That’s exactly it! He isn’t doing it to be nasty but doesn’t see the point as we both agreed that we liked it initially. I just thought we would also consider others but he is settled on Anna so thinks it’s a waste of time.

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:25

@EachPeachPearRum. He is calling the bump Anna but also saying that in his opinion we picked the name together (as I said I liked it earlier) and that he sees no need to consider other names as we agreed in the beginning 😬!!

PenelopeThePufferfish · 29/08/2018 19:21

Emma is lovely! I also love Anna, but it isn’t the point as said^^.

How about something longer with Anna as a shortening?

Annabel
Rosanna
Arianna
Anastasia (LOVE this name)
Annalise
Anita

Etc, etc

LonginesPrime · 29/08/2018 19:16

It's not whether we like Anna, but more that one of your first important JOINT parenting decisions has been decided by your OH....

This ^ is far more important IMO than whether Anna is a nice name.

JacNaylor · 29/08/2018 19:10

It's a great name but you both have to love it I think!

OrdinarySnowflake · 29/08/2018 19:09

If he won't consider other names, then I think it's time for a little white lie that you don't like the name Anna at all, and are there any other names he likes? Suggest Grace, Emma, ask if there's any others he likes.

You can always "come round" to the idea of Anna again later, but it seems as far as your DH is concerned you both like the name Anna so there's no point discussing other names. (That you will put it on a short list says you like the name too, so it's sorted in his head and further discussion is pointless)

BakedBeans47 · 29/08/2018 19:09

Anna is fine but your DH is a douchebag

EachPeachPearRum · 29/08/2018 19:08

Anna is gorgeous BUT this is more about the interaction between the two of you. Has he actually said he won't consider other names or is he just calling the bump Anna?

MissWimpyDimple · 29/08/2018 19:07

I love Anna. One of my faves

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:07

@Sugarpiehoneyeye. Oh I also like Emma and Grace but was thinking Anna Grace as a pp suggested (Grace being a middle name of course). I like classic names and nothing too unusual.

deptfordgirl · 29/08/2018 19:06

Love love love Anna. So beautiful and classic. But agree it should be both of your decision.

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:05

@Sugarpiehoneyeye. I do really like Anna. I just feel that it’s a huge decision and don’t want to necessarily choose the first name that we discussed. Maybe I’m making more of it than I should as just feeling the pressure as a first time mummy to be!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/08/2018 19:01

I think Anna is a beautiful name, but you have to think so too !
Nip his bullying in the bud, this is your baby too !
What names do you like ? 🌸

Joeybee · 29/08/2018 18:38

Your Husband needs to learn to compromise and respect your opinion too. Sorry, but naming your child is a big decision which you both need to discuss and agree to. Even if you had agreed to Anna, the fact you're now not comfortable with it means you need to talk about other options. Don't get pushed into using a name you're not happy with.

ReginaPhalange89 · 29/08/2018 17:59

Anna is a lovely name, pretty and classic ! But if you don't love it too then he needs to reconsider. You should at least have a few options

I had my heart set on my girls name before we even conceived. I was lucky my OH liked it too. He had a bit of a wobble over it the week before she arrived and I was so upset ! But he couldn't come up with anything else. I'd have considered other names if he'd put some forward that we both really liked too

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 17:54

Lol - name change fail as family members know my username. So perhaps name might be out the bag. Doh!!

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 17:54

@BoneyBackJefferson. Well if you read my post fully I did reference that DH didn’t agree to my favourite boys name so I made a shortlist and we discussed the options of Matthew and Aaron. Anna is his favourite girls name and I’m not dismissing it fully but would like to consider other options like I did with the boys names for him.

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/08/2018 17:35

Confuseddotcom01

So you got to choose a name for a boy that he wasn't keen on and won't let him choose the name as the baby is a girl.

Just a small amount of hypocrisy there.

TroubledLichen · 29/08/2018 17:30

For what it’s worth I like the name. But you have a big problem in that your DH thinks only his opinion matters and won’t discuss anything else. There are going to be lots more decisions to make once the baby comes along and you need to be able to make these together by talking like adults.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 29/08/2018 17:26

The issue is more that your OH is not considering your thoughts and feelings on this matter and that's not a good thing if he's being like that before the baby is born. What happens when she's born? Will he not let you have a say in matters then either? Put your foot down and explain to him again. If he refuses to acknowledge you then come up with your own shortlist. If you like Anna then go with it but you really need to talk to your OH and put your foot down.

Confuseddotcom01 · 29/08/2018 17:18

@RSTera. We were going to have a family name as the middle name but you may have convinced me otherwise! Anna Grace does have a lovely ring to it and it goes nicely with our surname.

OP posts:
Sophronia · 29/08/2018 17:16

Anna is much nicer than Emma and Grace

RSTera · 29/08/2018 17:05

Anna Grace would be beautiful.

Confuseddotcom01 · 29/08/2018 17:02

Whoops hit the wrong button and posted way too soon...

I do really like Anna so not opposed to having this as our daughter’s name. Guess I would just like a short list so that I feel that we have considered and dismissed other options. The only other names I really like are Emma and Grace so it would likely be between the three of them anyway!

Think I need to bring up the subject again....
