DH set on girls name - no discussion

I thought I was initially expecting a boy - just a feeling - so had a few names in mind after first scan showed that everything looked ok. DH didn’t like my favourite boys name but we agreed on either Matthew or Aaron. He wasn’t that keen on Matthew either but was happy for me to choose if it was a boy.

We subsequently found out that we are having a girl. He liked the name Anna which I agreed was nice and could be added to our list. He now refers to bump as Anna and won’t even consider any other girls names. He says that we agreed on the name but I only recall agreeing to it being on the shortlist.

I feel like it is such a huge decision and we haven’t considered all options.

So just wanted to see what you guys think of Anna?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@bridgetreilly. That’s so true. I’m probably over thinking as it’s my first.

Thanks to all who have replied. I’m only 16 weeks so plenty of time before final decision has to be made. Although Anna Grace is our favourite at the moment 😀 x

bridgetreilly · 30/08/2018 17:33

You don't have to consider and dismiss all the options. Really. If you have a name that you are both happy with it doesn't matter how you got there.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 30/08/2018 16:34

I like Kate a lot but would go for Katherine on the birth certificate.

Katherine Anna or Anna Katherine would work well. Or indeed Emma Katherine or Katherine Emma!

Also like Rose or Rosa as a first name. Or Mary or Maria.

JillCrewesmum · 30/08/2018 08:43

Alice
Eve
May
Kate is nice

I think I just had a bit of a wobble as don’t like any other names as much as Anna, Emma or Grace. My DH isn’t too keen on Grace which is why I was thinking of using it as a middle name which he is happy about. So that leaves Emma and Anna.

I did speak to DH last night based on the advice from all you ladies. He didn’t realise that I was having a wobble and genuinely thought that it was something that we had agreed on.

He said that if I preferred Emma then he would be ok with that. To be honest though I think I prefer Anna over Emma anyway! Although I’ve not told him this yet given that he is at least open to considering other names now before the final decision is made.

So.....any suggestions for short, classic names.....DH other suggestion last night was Kate?

JillCrewesmum · 30/08/2018 07:31

Anna is lovely

DH chose all our dcs names! I am weird though as I don't really get the interest in names, they are what they are.

LinkyPlease · 30/08/2018 07:25

IMO if the family / child's surname is the man's name then the final say on first name has to lie with the mother to try and equalise things a bit

moredoll · 30/08/2018 00:10

Anna is a lovely name. But it's a bit off for him to think he decides.

Ariela · 29/08/2018 23:02

Too many Grace about, Anna is nice and classic.

1busybee · 29/08/2018 22:56

I’ve had three kids and had same issue each time!! One we did pick that name other two nlt exactly. Plus I liked the discussion!!

banannabreadforme · 29/08/2018 21:14

My life long bf is called Anna so I think it's a gorgeous name.
If your not convinced could it be a middle name?

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 21:02

@Monday55. No not at all. I haven’t disagreed as such as the name is still very much on my radar and I have stated that I like the name. I just wanted to have a few names on a short list which we could then decide the best name once she arrives.

GorgonLondon · 29/08/2018 20:52

The name itself is fine, but that's not the point. His bullying, overbearing and stonewalling is.

GenericHamster · 29/08/2018 20:49

It wouldn't matter even if you had previously agreed to it - you are allowed to discuss again before baby is here - even after!

lolalotta · 29/08/2018 20:44

Not fussed on Anna, seems old fashioned to me, not in a cool way!

Jackietheduck · 29/08/2018 20:39

It doesn’t matter whether WE like the name. It has to be a name you both like.

Anna is a fab name but if you feel pushed into using it, it won’t feel like lthe right name.

My DH repeatedly told me during my pregnancy how much he loved a particular name for a baby girl. It was an ok name but it was never a name I’d have chosen. I pretended to consider it and then told him it reminded me of someone and I couldn’t use it. He was disappointed but we moved on. Likewise I liked the girl’s name Alexandra and he discounted it. It has to be mutual unless one of you really doesn’t mind.

PeachyKeenJellymonster · 29/08/2018 20:30

Oh op we had the exact same name issue... we did agree eventually but it's a very similar name

Monday55 · 29/08/2018 20:25

Anna is great.
Are you disagreeing to get him back?
.
I like Annabelle, Annabella too

Aprilshowersinaugust · 29/08/2018 20:19

Imo until a df can push a baby out of his nether regions a dm should get the final say in the name!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/08/2018 20:12

What's to dislike or critic about Anna.
It's classy elegant pretty Grows with you.
and not faddy, Therefore it won't date.
However our opinion is neither here nor there. If you can't settle on it your dh is way out of line refusing to discuss other names.
I think both parties have to love and name or at least one not care.
I mean when I was born my dad just said to my mum
"Oh That's your department names". Grin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/08/2018 19:37

Love Anna Grace OP. 💕

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:36

@1busybee. Did you end up choosing that name?

1busybee · 29/08/2018 19:34

My husband was a bit like that. I wanted to short list and discuss. He found a name we both liked and as we both liked it he thought that was decision made. It’s jusy disappointing. You need to be frank with him about how you feel!

ForeverJung · 29/08/2018 19:34

Anna is beautiful but he shouldnt be dictating to you. You have to give birth. Even if the baby were getting yr sur name, you have to give birth so i really believe final say on name should fall to the person who gives birth!

bubblybrit · 29/08/2018 19:31

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I just want to get the name right so I’m maybe being over sensitive given that we both like the name. Just frightened that we make a mistake for some reason!
