Husband cousin's named her twins like my children ?!

Hey everyone

Here's my dilemma, my husband's cousin who lives 10 minutes away and who see at least one a week ( She is his only family left) had two gorgeous babies , a boy and a girl she named Ayaan and Issa. The same name I chose for my daughter (5) and son (8 months) I am really sad about it, those names reflect my culture ( I am from Ethiopia, and DH is English). So I feel like two little blonde babies with those name is a bit odd, or at least she could have asked me some advices on culturally similar names. My husband is mad at me, and think I should be flattered. But I am struggling to do so. I have not told her anything, and I will not. But now we gonna have 4 cousins with the same names, who will spend a lot of time together... Do you think I am being unreasonable ?

It's so weird that I'd avoid her from now on. Who does that. It sounds like an unhealthy obsession tbh.

starkid · 31/08/2018 16:18

They are off their rocker to use your exact names! You'll have to make some sort of comment, it's too crazy not to ever mention.

MeyMary · 30/08/2018 19:01

That's strange. One name? Not too weird.

Both? Incredibly weird.

Flamingosnbears · 30/08/2018 18:03

Weird...

cutitout · 30/08/2018 16:45

what minisoksmakehardwork said. Looks like she liked your husband but couldn't get him. Now she is trying to build a life similar to his. She is a plain weirdo stalker who doesn't know when to give up. She wont be good for your relationship

rainbowstardrops · 29/08/2018 22:16

Very, very odd. She sounds weird

tenredthings · 29/08/2018 22:09

Ask your husband to push for the names being used as the twins middle names. She might listen to him more than you. To have the same first names is ridiculous especially as you are in the same family and live near each other. It's going to be confusing for the children when they are small and embarrassing as they grow. This would be enough reason for me to create a fuss now before it's too late. Everyone will know she copied you as her kids are younger and people will think how weird it is and what a CF she must be !

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 29/08/2018 17:06

I think you should say something before it’s official and too late. It’s going to bug you for a long time otherwise.

Theweasleytwins · 29/08/2018 16:57

If she gets her way and gets your dh maybe she is trying to replace you and your children🤔

MerryMarigold · 29/08/2018 11:36

Tbh, I would move house to the other end of the country. It sounds like she is weirdly close to your dh and needs to stop obsessing. I don't even know siblings that close.

BlueBug45 · 29/08/2018 11:12

YABU about the origin of the names. If she wants to give them Ethiopian first names fine. I've met people over the years whose names do not reflect where their parents are from, but are named after someone they met from a foreign country or a culture they were immersed in.

YANBU that she named them after their cousins.

She would have been sensible to ask for a list of Ethiopian names and their meanings, or researched some and checked with you they weren't weird if she wanted a connection with her children's cousins.

bettytaghetti · 29/08/2018 10:56

YADNBU

If they live very close, is it likely that they will go to school in the same year/class as your son? How weird is that going to be?!

Can you not post a "congratulations on the birth of your twins" on FB "with love from Elsafairly, DH, and the original! Ayaan & Issa. xx" Grin

Joeybee · 29/08/2018 01:34

It is strange that she's chosen the same names, especially strange as you're close and the kids will grow up together. It is flattering that she's picked those names, but I think you've every right to feel a bit disappointed. Especially as those names reflect your culture and not a culture (it sounds) that she grew up with.

BettySpagBol · 29/08/2018 00:19

He doesn't want to offend her?!Shes offended your entire family what a fucking weirdo!!!!!!

nailak · 29/08/2018 00:15

First of all YABU for talking about those names being from Ethiopian Culture and odd on those with blonde hair and Blue eyes.

They are Arabic/Islamic names and I actually know quite a few eesa's/Issa's and Ayaans' with blonde hair and light eyes. Some are European, others are from Persia etc.
I also know those who have those names that are from various other cultures from South Asian to North African, to the Far East.
In my circle they are popular names. Although I get that is not the same for yours or your in-laws.

YANBU
that they copied your names exactly. That's just weird.

nothingchangesagain · 29/08/2018 00:04

my brother in law and his wife chose to name their child the exact same name as my child only swapped the first and middle name, think Michael Sean and their sons name is Sean Michael.
we live in the same town and see each other a lot so its damn weird and also his other brother and sis in law wanted my other Dcs middle name as a first name for thier child but when they saw the look on my face they changed their mind Grin, it wouldn't have bothered me had the first thing not happened but there are some very weird people around op, I would ask her straight out about the names.

DC2018 · 28/08/2018 23:54

That's is a bit weird especially as they are culturally different names. I would have to say something as it would annoy me too much. Even a snide "as I love those names (obviously lol)" on her Facebook post. What a creep x

FrangipaniBlue · 28/08/2018 22:45

Just very odd especially given the cultural difference!!

If it makes you feel a little better OP my Aunt did this to my DM.

DM was pregnant with me and had told her DSiS what her chosen girls name was. My Aunt was pregnant at the same time and gave birth to her twin girls 4/5 weeks before DM gave birth to me.

My Aunt not only gave one of her twins my name, but gave the other my mums name!!

Very confusing for my family........Confused

MaisyPops · 28/08/2018 22:16

Very very weird.

Why would anyone copy names from a culture they have nothing to do with?

Hmmm. She sounds quite possessive.

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 28/08/2018 22:11

She’s a freak. Yanbu.

Sunflower321 · 28/08/2018 22:02

Really Shock? That's weird and I'd be upset too!

quizqueen · 28/08/2018 21:45

If she had used them as middle names, it could perhaps be seen as a tribute to your family just like using a grandparent's name as a memory of them. Next time she wants to borrow stuff I'd say, 'You copied my children's names, now you want my clothes, do you want my husband too?'
I think you need to have a good heart to heart with your husband and say how uncomfortable you are about her. If he continues to invite her round so much then find someone he dislikes and repeat the same behaviour.

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/08/2018 21:41

The OP hasn't said but the names are also popular in christian and Muslim Arabs and as an off shoot Hindu.

Or she may have copied the OP.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 28/08/2018 21:38

I’d be asking your DH if the twins are his Hmm simce he doesn’t think it’s strange.

Paddley · 28/08/2018 21:37

How strange, not to mention highly suspicious.
