Hello! My husband and I are considering "Walter" for our son, nickname would be Walt. Husband's American and loves Walter Cronkite/Walter Matthau, but we are residing in London, and I worry about how our son would be treated with such a clunky name! Any thought?! Thank you!

I like Walt lots. And Walter isn't clunky - it's old-fashioned but it's a name everyone would recognise as a name, IYSWIM. If you like it, go for it.

Count yourself lucky you're not in Scotland, Walter is sometimes shortened to Watty here!

I love it and wanted to use it. But husband really hated it so we didn't use it in the end :(

Not a fan personally. Better shortened to Walt although people might say 'like in Disney' a lot. If you like it use it.

It's unusual but endearing. I think some people might shorten it to Wally.
