It's weird isn't it how one name has such different connotations for people.

Leopoldina known as Polly is from a novel (Love in a Cold Climate). I know a Leopoldina known as Leopoldina, and I think it's lovely, but Polly on its own is quite enough.
I like Mary too.

I like Polly but would use it - parrot/ pretty Polly (potential teasing especially if she's not conventionally pretty or has a plump or spotty teenage phase) and put the kettle on spring to mind instantly.

I love it, I use it as a nickname for my DD. The nickname came from Polly Pocket as she was tiny when she was born and is still small and dainty.

Someone up thread mentioned Poppy, Daisy, Maisie, to me Polly is similar, it's like all kids have a slight variation of the same name, and all are twee.

Well it does remind me of Polly put the kettle on. I would prefer it as a nn for something also sorry!

Yes, like a PP has just said it's pretty but not twee. That's a good way of describing it. For some reason I find it quite different to the likes of Poppy, Daisy & Maisie which I find very cutesy. Polly is stronger & I can't put my finger on exactly why.

As this is mumsnet, you need to have a proper name on the BC, just in case Polly ends up being an eminent surgeon or barrister, so I suggest Leopoldina or Poldarkina

I was a Polly Pocket obsessive as a child but when I hear Polly now, I don't think 'pocket'...if that reassures you!
I like it but it's quite frilly
