Can’t choose between the two! Older child is Robert. Known as Robert and Robbie equally.
Thanks

I slightly prefer William, both on its own and paired with Robert.

Not keen on Edison, I’m afraid. I like pretty traditional names.

I do like Benjamin and Alexander too.

William
What about Edison.

Westbury · 26/08/2018 17:53

I don’t think the people round here did either!

Westbury the parents of the Ed’s at nursery obviously didn’t get that memo!

Westbury · 26/08/2018 13:53

@wishingtrees - Edward is actually the slightly less popular one in the ONS lists.

@woodfires 😂😂

Edward

Ozgirl01 · 26/08/2018 03:41

Edward! Love nn Ned.

woodfires · 26/08/2018 01:37

Well Prince Edward is further away from the crown in the line of succession than Prince William, if that is what you mean by downmarket!

AlphabetSoupcon · 26/08/2018 01:32

Edward/Ed is a rather downmarket name when older though. Sounds like a person who doesn’t wash enough!

wishingtrees · 26/08/2018 01:13

I know loads of Edwards, only one William. I’d go for the lesser used name.

TroubledLichen · 26/08/2018 01:07

I like both. William (with Will for short) is my favourite though as I feel like I’m constantly meeting Teddy short for Edwards at the moment.

eachtigertires · 26/08/2018 00:55

I prefer the name William (nn Will or Billy) but in your case would go with Edward because of the Robbie Williams association.

kenandbarbie · 25/08/2018 18:32

Btw we have a William, always Will, not bill or billy and doesn't get teased with willy either.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/08/2018 18:31

William nn Will

Dislike Edward

kenandbarbie · 25/08/2018 18:30

I like both!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/08/2018 18:26

I love William, but sorry, not Edward.

Westbury · 25/08/2018 17:09

Argument against William, I mean!

Thanks everyone. Edward definitely seems most popular. Thanks for all the shortening suggestions too, we do have one in mind but I like most of them really (Ned is an option too) so we will see how it pans out.
I’m not keen on Billy/Bill, which is another argument against Edward.

I like Edward best. I don't think it's too popular x

Icklepup · 25/08/2018 12:05

Edward

hungryhippie · 25/08/2018 12:03

I really dislike Edward and the nicknames Ed, Eddie and Ted.
William for me

thegreylady · 25/08/2018 11:56

We have a 9 year old Edward (dgs) who is probably one of the loveliest little boys ever not that I’m biased of course.

kettleonplease · 25/08/2018 11:52

William massively popular here in Australia (number 1 last year I think), and I am yet to meet an Edward. Though Australia probably isn't of concern to you!

I'd go with William, Edward always sounds so formal and public school boy to me

ReginaPhalange89 · 25/08/2018 11:12

Sorry I'm going opposite, I prefer William. Edward is just an old man name to me.

I'm not overly keen on William either but I like that it can be shortened to Will or Liam.
