It’s nearly that time again; the 2017 ONS baby name data for England and Wales will be published in the next few weeks. Chime in here with your predictions for the biggest risers and fallers.

I had my baby last year so have been waiting for these stats to be published! Our name doubled in popularity between 2016-2017... but that was from 7 to 14! Truth be told although I still love our DS's name and wouldn't have wanted to call him anything else I did wonder if we'd be the only ones and that made me feel a bit nervous so I'm feeling very happy that there are 13 others who share his name. 😊

Surprised by how low Tabitha and Margot are. Pleased to see Sylvie is only in the top 400, thought it would be much higher - can't believe there were as many Michelles as Sylvies born! Just goes to show, must be the circles we move in.

I predicted both my DD names would rise. One did but the other had fallen. Also DS fell too.

Sarah drops out of the top 100 for the first time since records began in 1904. Poor Sarah.

“Leo replaced Thomas in the top 10 for boys, whilst Hunter and Ralph replaced Aaron and Jasper in the top 100 in 2017.”

“Poppy replaced Jessica in the top 10 for girls, whilst Aurora, Orla, Edith, Bonnie, Lyla and Hallie replaced Lexi, Zoe, Maddison, Sarah, Felicity and Lydia in the top 100 in 2017.”

I've met a handful of little Ada's @Haworthia, a lovely name I agree but on the rise I think, in London at least.

Florence is going to be very popular too I think, another one I hear lots of. And I agree with PP about Eva, Eve Ivy and Ava. Really pretty names but popular too.

Didn't remember that Dexter was that low in the rankings @LydiaLunch7- is it weird that I want it to keep going lower?! I suppose on the one it means that people don't like the name and on the other hand it means there's less chance of DS having a name twin at school. I love it for DS either way and it really suits him.

I've known two baby Margots recently as well, another unlikely name that's risen in popularity imo.

Dexter was 83rd last year, Gimble. It's been going down a little bit since it peaked a few years ago though.

And I've never met a single Rex! I am meeting a lot of Maxes though. Maybe that will have risen.

I’ll be raging if Ada shoots up the charts yet again (although I suspect it will). It’s been on my radar since the days when only 50 girls a year got that name.

I think Ivy will be well inside the top 20, closely followed by Edie and Elsie (although Edie is sometimes creatively spelled, so that will affect the numbers).

As for boys, I find myself tripping over Austins. I’m not sure where that placed last year, but it will have to be higher still.

Interested to see if DS's name has risen.

He's a Dexter and was born last year. Pretty sure his name was below the 50th most popular as DP set that as the bar for choosing a name.

I've met 2 other Dexter's since born within a year of DS and had lots of 'I know a Dexter' so am expecting it to rise!

Definitely, Petra. I think the trend for boys’ Old Testament names will continue. Ezra broke into the top 100 last year, Noah and Isaac are already high up, and I think Eli, Josiah, Reuben, Jonah etc will continue to climb.

I hear Louis everywhere now, but all older than the prince. I think if you combine Louis and Louie it's a lot higher than 71.

All the little Louis I know predated the prince. Kate and William followed a trend and I think Louis will rise. Agree Otis to rise. Isla to be hugely popular. Mila could rise- an alternative to the very popular Mia. Arlo is going to be the next Noah. I come across a lot of Samuels but not sure if that's just my area......

Louis is currently #71. Interestingly it was on its way down in 2016 and any Prince Louis effect won’t be evident until the 2018 stats are published next year.
