Aurora & Sebastian

Would you think parents of an Aurora and Sebastian were big Disney fans? Is it an obvious connection between the two or am I over thinking it?

Our eldest is Aurora (not named after the Disney princess lol) and we're considering Sebastian if we have a boy this time around. We have two other children whose names aren't associated with Disney too (to my knowledge anyway lol) Thanks!

They're lovely names and I wouldn't link them to Disney, especially with two non-Disney sibling names

pixieloux · 23/08/2018 13:59

See, I would never think of Disney when seeing Sebastian on it's own. I don't think I'd have given it a second thought if we already had Sebastian and wanted to use Aurora this time round. I'm just used to hearing about Disney with Rora lol.

The first thing I thought of seeing them both was “Disney” but I also thought that they’re a really nice pair! If you have 2 others non Disney I don’t think people would really notice about these two. It’s not like calling them Merida and Nemo or something- where you barely see those names outside of Disney

Belindabauer · 23/08/2018 12:02

I wouldn't have done until someone I know said their ds was going to be named after a Disney character and his name is Sebastion.

pixieloux · 23/08/2018 11:03

@AngelsAckiz The Borealis connection is lovely! We didn't really name her after anything/anyone... I was talking to someone who used it as a middle name for her newborn baby (they did consider it for her first) and fell in love. Luckily, DH liked it too and it made our top three. I doubt we'd have ever thought of it ourselves if it wasn't for that... I couldn't imagine her being anything else now!

My daughter's middle name is Aurora and my favourite boy's name is Sebastian :)
Though I named her Aurora after the northern lights. Beautiful!

TatianaLarina · 22/08/2018 23:06

I thought of Rome too I hate Disney.

buttercup54321 · 22/08/2018 22:39

They go well together.

ReginaPhalange89 · 22/08/2018 22:09

I think the fact you have two other kids with non Disney names is ok. Like if you just had the two then you'd be saying their names together a lot, but say for example ppl asked you your kids names , you'd usually say them from oldest to youngest wouldn't you... So I don't think I'd notice .

I do think of sleeping beauty when I hear Aurora, it was my fav Disney movie when I was little. I think Sebastian is fine. If it was Ariel and Sebastian it might be another story 😂

Shambu · 22/08/2018 17:15

I thought Rome.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 22/08/2018 10:28

I like both names; and with two non Disney siblings, I think you're absolutely fine.

People are going to read the thread title and think they are your only children though; and that will colour opinions.

MintTulips · 22/08/2018 10:24

I thought of Disney before I'd opened the thread.

I think it's too much.

FartnissEverbeans · 22/08/2018 10:22

I know both films but I wouldn’t think Disney.

I absolutely love Aurora btw. Gorgeous name.

I actually know a little girl called Briar! And I quite like it

Shambu · 21/08/2018 23:30

There are 1000s of people in the world who don't give a flying fuck about Disney and don't really engage with it.

ZebraKid71 · 21/08/2018 23:13

I would make the link, but not if you have two other children with non character names. Also aurora seems to be quite popular at the moment, and I know a couple of baby Sebastian -links never seem to be as obvious with popular names.

Sebastian is lovely, I'd go for it.

Also, if you shorten them and they are aurora and seb, or Rory and seb I would never make the connection.

bridgetreilly · 21/08/2018 21:58

My first thought before opening the thread was 'Are you naming children or casting a Disney film?' So I think there's your answer.

Shambu · 21/08/2018 21:52

Aurora and Sebastian are great names. Disney wouldn't even cross my mind.

OutPinked · 21/08/2018 21:46

Nope, I wouldn’t make the link at all.

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 21:18

We already have Aurora, she's 6 and we've never had any issues with pronunciation - maybe we're just lucky as I have seen people say it a lot.

I was going to post way. too. disney. and then I saw that you already know that !

I find Aurora quite hard to say.

ParadiseLaundry · 21/08/2018 21:12

@kenandbarbie she was also known as Briar Rose when she was hidden to confuse you even more so she had three names!

I love the name Sebastian, I probably would make their Disney connection, but only because I'm a big fan. Aurora was also the only girls name I considered when i was pg but we had a boy. You have good taste op Smile

Thiswayorthatway · 21/08/2018 21:07

Aurora Borealis - the Northern Lights was my first thought.

Strawberry2017 · 21/08/2018 21:00

Sebastian makes me think of the never ending story too, but either way a fabulous name.
I like Aurora too.
People will always find something to say about any name picked so don't worry about it. X

Goostacean · 21/08/2018 20:56

Didn’t even occur to me as I read the thread title... I’m 27, if that helps.

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 20:54

@AliceRR I don't know whether it's because it's not as popular here but we've gotten the Disney thing a lot. I love her name so much so it doesn't take away from it but no, we didn't name our first born daughter after a Disney princess lol. I would never associate Sebastian with Disney otherwise but I wonder if people would with Aurora as his big sister.
