We are pretty much set on Annabelle. It goes really nicely with Clara our other DD.

DH is very keen on Charlotte as a middle name as it's his favourite but we ruled it out due to popularity.

Question is Annabelle Charlotte too much of a mouthful? If so any helpful suggestions?

Going against the grain I prefer the Annabelle spelling and I agree OP, Annabel looks unfinished. That said I'm not English, rather from a western European country and more used to the French spelling of names. It is also a name of French origin and I'd keep the original spelling.

That makes sense that you wanted to option of Anna or Belle. I do slightly prefer Annabel and probably like Regina above do think that it looks more elegant.

You could use 'Annabel' and then refer to her as 'Belle' from the start if you wanted but just because some MNers prefer Annabel doesn't mean you should give up the spelling that you love!

I like Annabel too. I think Annabelle pushes it a bit close to Disney princess territory. I do like Annabel a lot though and I remember it being on my list for dd.

Annabel Charlotte is very nice. Not too much of a mouthful at all imo.

I too much prefer the simplicity and elegance of Annabel. Beautiful name.

The Annabelle spelling looks unnecessarily frilly and looks like it should be pronounced with more emphasis on the second syllable. I'm not keen.

My DD is Annabelle! So obviously I love it, she is Annabelle Primrose.

I love it because it's a name that everybody's heard of but it's not overlused. Its in the top 100, but towards the bottom of the list so ..

The film Annabelle came out the year DD was born and we had plenty of people trying to put us of the name because of that, but honestly as your DD gets older most people will have totally forgot about the horror movie. I prefer it spelt Annabelle rather than Annabel, I think it looks much prettier with the longer ending, and looks a bit incomplete with the shorter ending. Plus I was a big fan of the name Belle but OH wasnt so Annabelle was a nice compromise.

Much prefer Annabel because that's the usual spelling. The extra 'le' makes it look frilly.
I know a lovely Annabel.
I also prefer Jane to Jayne, Amy to Aimee, Isabel to Isabelle etc.

If you prefer the Annabel spelling, what does the "bel" bit of that spelling have to do with it?

I'm now thinking "Babybel!"

But, I'm with the OP, Annabel looks unfinished.

If you're going to use that name I'd spell it either:

Annabell or Annabelle, not Annabel

Annabel is the classic English spelling - like Isobel/Isabel instead of Isabelle.

Annabelle is a bit pretentious and fiddly. The extra E doesn't add anything if you're going to pronounce it Annabel. Annabelle is the more French spelling, so you'd expect it to pronounced differently with the stress on the Belle, so AnnaBELLE.

I also prefer Annabel, but I'm not sure why ! Annabelle looks like two names stuck together I think... If that makes sense....

But I do think Anabel Charlotte is lovely. She could still go by Anna or Belle as a nn, don't think the spelling changes that.

Annabelle is too frilly and has a very different feel.

Annabelle looks very overly girly and pretentious to me, and it's not the classic spelling. It's a little yooniq.

And she can still use Belle as a nickname if it's spelt Annabel. I know two Isabel's who go by Belle.

I'm torn on the spelling for those who prefer Annabel can I ask why?

For me I think it almost looks unfinished (but I am dyslexic so a few words look like that to me.) I wanted to use Annabelle so she had the option of Anna or Belle as nicknames.

I am really not fussed about the Thomas thing... I don't think that this will be a problem long term or even really while they are toddlers.

I prefer the shorter spelling, lovely name but not with Clara as a sibling - definitely screams Thomas the tank!
