If you read the name Maia, how would you say it?

May-a or Mi-ya

I’m not sure! Probably May-a.

My-uh

You'll have to live with the fact that people will pronounce it differently and miss hear it as Mia or Mya or Maya and therefore write the "wrong" name, if you choose a name which is similar to lots of other popular names. You can correct people of course and they'll adapt, but people getting it "wrong" initially will be part of living with this name.

I've met children with both pronunciations but if faced with the name on a piece of paper I would say May-a as a default. Reason being Mai on its name is pronounced May then add the extra 'a' onto the end.

May-a is how I would pronounce it. X

MongerTruffle · 20/08/2018 10:07

I would say it the same as Attica.

My - a (as in the word "my", followed by schwa)
