The name Lucian for a boy? Plus what are your thoughts on the name? Do you know any?

Looshun

TroysMammy · 20/08/2018 20:31

Lew see en. It was pronounced like that in the Liver Birds. Remember Lucien and his rabbits?

confuddeledconfuddel · 20/08/2018 20:26

I read it as lu c ien as in the devil pronunciation Blush

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/08/2018 19:28

Wasn't one of the Enid Blyton characters called Lucian?

There was Lucy-Ann in the Adventure series Grin

MrsFoxPlus4 · 20/08/2018 04:51

Loo-Shen from the Cramp twins 😂

LeeValley2 · 20/08/2018 02:22

NataliaOsipova I think it’s Julian.

LeeValley2 · 20/08/2018 02:20

Loo see un

It’s great. It’s Lucius Malfoy anyway, a completely different name.

YerAuntFanny · 20/08/2018 02:04

Loo-see-an.

I'm Scottish but wouldn't call Lucy "Loo-shee" surely it's the same sounds?

I automatically thought Malfoy and I'm not keen on the name but there are worse out there!

SuperstarDJ · 20/08/2018 02:02

Loo-see-un

Not keen - it’s a bit too frilly for my taste

Takfujimoto · 20/08/2018 02:00

Loo shun and no I don't like it.

3TresTrois · 20/08/2018 01:57

That should be loo-see-un

3TresTrois · 20/08/2018 01:57

Loo-see-in

I know only one, very prominent industry figure and he is known as lucifer behind his back.

I don’t like it.

AnExcellentUsername · 20/08/2018 01:54

Scottish here, I'd pronounce it Loosh-ian.

NataliaOsipova · 19/08/2018 23:19

Lucy-un here too. Wasn't one of the Enid Blyton characters called Lucian? Don't like it hugely, I must admit.

PlatypusPie · 19/08/2018 23:19

In my experience, the pronunciation is between the she an and the see an. Lovely, dignified name.

MollyHuaCha · 19/08/2018 23:17

Loo-see-un

I like it.

C0untDucku1a · 19/08/2018 23:15

We considered Lucien. We love warewolf / vampire films. In Underworld different characters probounce it in different ways depending where they are from. Loo-shun or loo- cee- an.

Loo see un
Absolutely love it and was on my list every time but I kept getting over ruled.

theunsure · 19/08/2018 23:07

It depends. I worked with a Loo-see-un and know one other pronounced that way. They were both Home Counties, very upper middle class.
But I also know a Loo-shan who has part Scottish family although English accent themselves.
I’d naturally go with the former I think.

Goostacean · 19/08/2018 23:06

Loo-sheun, I think... Also Home Counties, like a PP.

I like it! Although the ambiguity of pronunciation would put me off using it myself.

BackforGood · 19/08/2018 22:59

Loose-ee-an

I don't like it

I don't know any personally (though I have heard of the name).

Dani18 · 19/08/2018 22:53

Lou- shan. I'm Scottish x

SmilingButClueless · 19/08/2018 22:47

Lucy-Ann

Stinkbomb · 19/08/2018 22:45

Loo-see-an
Or
Lu-szchan

starfish8 · 19/08/2018 22:06

I liked Lucian as a name but didn't pick it as it would get mispronounced all the time!

I'd say Lou-she-an
