Honest opinions on Edith please...

Not that we should be adding to our ridiculously long girl's list but I've been liking it a lot recently... I'm curious to know how well received it is. Thanks!

Lovely name, could be shortened to Eddie or Edie.
My DD, who is very hipster, wants to call any future DD she has Olive!

Best girl's name ever!

It always gets shouted down on MN as sooooo popular but in fact I know one (she is 17 :) ) and I know of a couple of others, that's all.

Other names I like if it helps are Florence, Agnes, Mabel, Constance, Cecily, Martha.

@newnamechange1234 We have discussed Eden but I don't think it fits as well as with our other children's names plus I prefer Edith.

Meh, to be honest. Although other posters have strong opinions, it seems.

I don’t love it, but I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow to meet a little Edith. I think the gentle “th” at the end, and Edie is cute- but it is definitely an old lady name.

I’ve only ever met someone with Edith as a middle name, she’d be late twenties now and she is Florence Edith.

Awful...I quite like an old fashioned name but Edith is unspeakably frumpy and ugly sounding.

We'd probably use Edie as a shortened form but it would definitely seem too nicknamey against our other children's names if used on it's own. Not that we'd plan to... I love Edith, the lovely Edie is a bonus to it!

I love old lady names! Our DDs have then but ones that seem to be getting quite popular now and are apart of the comeback crew lol.

I like it! Classic name, unusual these days without being weird, easy to spell, hard to mispronounce, nickname options if that’s your scene, and definitely don’t think it’s particulalry dreary or frumpy, especially when compared to a lot of the other ‘old lady’ names which are having a resurgence. Solid choice.

It’s my mums name and she hates it with a passion (she was named after her mum) and has always used her middle name. Definitely an old lady name to me and not in a cute old fashioned way.
