Honest opinions on Edith please...

Not that we should be adding to our ridiculously long girl's list but I've been liking it a lot recently... I'm curious to know how well received it is. Thanks!

Penelope is lovely!

pixieloux · 20/08/2018 12:42

A mixed bag... I was expecting more negative than positive to be honest but it seems to have gone the other way. I don't know if it's too 'old lady' alongside our LO's names. Imogen, Margot and Penelope are probably on the perfect sort of level to fit in with them, from our list.

I like Edith. Can't stand Edie though.

Frosty6611 · 20/08/2018 11:32

It’s literally my worst girls name, think it’s awful!
I do like a lot of ‘old women’ names though but just hate that one for some reason

villainousbroodmare · 20/08/2018 11:32

Hate it, sorry. Ranks with Mabel and Agatha.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 20/08/2018 11:30

Hate it

kettleonplease · 20/08/2018 11:26

I love the nn Edie, but cannot stand Edith. It just sounds really harsh to me

Pompom42 · 20/08/2018 11:21

I'm was my nans name although I never knew her as Edith as she didn't like it but was known as Edie. She didn't like that much as most people pronounced it as Eddie. I mean why would you?
In her Xmas cards people used to write Dear Eddie!
I thought it was a strange name growing up but only because I'd never really heard it apart from my nan

cholka · 20/08/2018 11:13

Reminds me of Allo Allo

PyjamasForever · 20/08/2018 11:12

Love Edith. It was my great grandmother's grandmother's and mum's name and it's my middle name. Would definitely call a future daughter Edith too.

LeeMiller · 20/08/2018 11:09

Edie and Edith are lovely, much more so than Eden for me. I think Cavell, Piaf and Sedgwick.

I wouldn't use it if I lived somewhere where th is regularly pronounced as f in the local accent though, I have a friend who constantly gets called 'Edif' and finds it annoying.

Florence, Imogen and Beatrix are also very nice.

Flamingosnbears · 20/08/2018 10:47

Good name choice

ladycarlotta · 20/08/2018 10:40

Lovely! If some friends of ours hadn't name their baby that recently, it'd be on my list.

It's very noble. I think of Anglo-Saxon queens rather than old ladies.

gigi556 · 20/08/2018 06:18

Love it. Was my top pick for a girl but we got a boy :)

Oblomov18 · 20/08/2018 05:46

Horrible. Old ladies name. My mum hates it and also like pp uses her middle name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/08/2018 05:13

I think I quite like it actually ! I do really like it shortened to Edie, that's cute.
I just rhinkt of Edith Bowman when I hear it rather than an old woman

TheDowagerCuntess · 20/08/2018 04:50

I like it.

It's a very different sort of name from Eden (much nicer).

flumpybear · 20/08/2018 04:04

Sorry, but I think it's a marmite name, I really don't like it because it sounds so old fashioned - like Imogen and Phoebe from your list, much prettier Names

BasiliskStare · 20/08/2018 03:29

I like Margot. But then I like Celia. and Stella and Grace and Fiona and Nancy and Pamela so ignore me Grin

moredoll · 20/08/2018 00:42

Sorry, don't like it at all. Agree with pp - it's too frumpy.
I like Edie, but as nn for Eden.

meadowmeow · 20/08/2018 00:03

Edith Bowman has carried it well. She is only in her 40's, literally every other Edith I have know of is double that age.

Yika · 20/08/2018 00:02

Lovely name.

pixieloux · 19/08/2018 23:58

Also it ranks #249 here which is only 8 spots behind DD1. What I'm shocked about is the fact it's much more popular than DD2's name... Violet is SO popular on here but only ranks #365 in Ireland.
