Honest opinions on Edith please...

Not that we should be adding to our ridiculously long girl's list but I've been liking it a lot recently... I'm curious to know how well received it is. Thanks!

@onetimeposter I'm not a huge fan of Elsie... Nothing wrong with it but it doesn't really appeal to me. It would definitely seem to short/nickname like against our LO's names too

None of our options are overly popular here in Ireland. Beatrix is ranked 873, Cecily is unranked, Edith is 249, Elodie is 365, Felicity is 734, Florence is 219, Imogen is 289, Margot is 396, Penelope is 133 and Phoebe is 137. I know of one Phoebe and that's it from our list.

Our children's names are 241, 365 and 156 so for the most part very similar in popularity. I'm sure all their names are much more popular in the UK though.

It's becoming more popular, especially with the events of the 1st World War and the Suffragettes being celebrated recently.

Edith New was one of the suffragettes who chained themselves to the railings of 10 Downing Street.

Edith Cavell is honoured as a heroine nurse in the 1st World War: she sheltered Allied servicemen in Belgium and helped them to escape.

Both were very brave women.

It's a beautiful name and I was lectured at university by a very well-known Edith, so I also associate it with kick-assery and good things. Grin Edie is sweet and rather pre-war, I like.

I think Edith has been made more cool due to Edith Bowman the DJ. I did think it dowdy when I first heard her name several years ago, but it now seems a good strong name. I like it. It fits in with other Anglo-Saxony-type names like Matilda. Edie is horrid, though. It's just too cutesy and bland.

I LOVE it. Its my grandmothers name and also the name of a writer I like. I also love the Cult song 'Eeeedieee dogs lay at your feeet Edie!! an angel with a broken wing...' etc etc

But its very popular at least round here because I know 3 under 4s with that name!! So sadly crossed it off our list

Can’t stand it. I like old school names but that one is dowdy, ugly and unstylish.

However Beatrice, Imogen, Margot, Phoebe and Cecilia are all fabulous. I would choose one of those.
