Honest opinions on Edith please...

Not that we should be adding to our ridiculously long girl's list but I've been liking it a lot recently... I'm curious to know how well received it is. Thanks!

My grans name was Edith and my mum was named after her. They both got called Edie.
Edie is nice for a kid. Edith is nice for an old lady Grin

@N0bodysM0t The top names don't seem to change that much, to be fair lol. There were a few suprises when I checked the list though... A few names that I wasn't excepting to see/to be as highly ranked. DD1's name has jumped 454 places since we named her Shock

Iv got an Edith :-) We always expected to call her Edie but she’s definitely an Edith for now!

Love the name Edith ....reminds me of the classicist Edith Hall. She is fab!

I used to think old lady name but Edith Bowman is cool! And Edith Cavell as PPs have said...fab brave lady, what a heroine. It sounds nice in an Irish accent too- I disagree that it's harsh.

@N0bodysM0t Edith is more popular here than I thought... It shocked me that it's above my youngest's, Violet's name. I'm not Irish (DH is) so I guess my taste is more in style with the UK rankings... maybe lol. Having worked with children, I am secretly pleased (not that it matters lol) with how my children's name sit in popularity... They're not popular, they won't be in a class with 5 others but they're still well known, classic names so nobody raises an eyelid. We've had comments on what lovely, unusual names our DDs have... DS's shortened form is quite popular here so it's not really seen as unusual lol.

I like it, but locally it would be Ediff and in France it's said uh-deet which is confusing and I think sounds dreadful.

Oh i dont think old lady chic is as understood in ireland. We have irish names, classic names, dodgy names and olivias amelias isabellas etc but there are very few Ediths. Old lady chic is rarer. I know a lois and an honor though.

Lady I agree, a name for a few Saxon Queens. King Harold's Queen/Handfast wife was known as Edith Swan Neck, how fabulous.
