Milo reminds me of the Tweenies.

TillyTheTiger · 25/08/2018 17:01

Angus - Aberdeen, beef
Cameron - Cameron highlands, lovely part of Malaysia. This was 2nd on our list for DS.
Fergus - Fungus
Kelvin - Temperature scale, or the scumbag editor of The Sun
Milo - in my arms, baby yeah (Mylo song)
Magnus - A big blonde sexy Scandinavian in a fair isle jumper
Oliver - Nice, but I know about ten of them
Rory - A lion

Cameron or Magnus would be my choices!

CountFosco · 25/08/2018 16:52

Should point out I do like both Sholto and Ruaridh as names BTW!

CountFosco · 25/08/2018 16:50

Mintich DS has one of the names on your list and we live in England (we are Scottish). I think it's fine to have a Scottish name with Scottish parents and names you've gone for are all well known names. It's not like you're going for Sholto which would be more challenging for the English. Or Ruaridh which no-one can spell.

Belindabauer · 24/08/2018 22:39

They all sound Scottish to me with the exception of Oliver and Milo.

capercaillie · 24/08/2018 22:38

Angus - love. Know a teenage Angus
Cameron - not keen
Fergus - like
Kelvin - definitely not keen
Milo - next door neighbour dog
Magnus - like
Oliver - love but v popular
Rory - love

Belindabauer · 24/08/2018 22:34

Angus - Scottish. Ac/dc.
Cameron - David Cameron.
Fergus - grown man with a straggly beard. Wears a checked shirt and likes to fish.
Kelvin - the guy on tv who interviews people.
Milo - nice, middle class.
Magnus - Magnuson , a good solid name.
Oliver - blond haired child.

Angus - nice hunky outdoorsy Scotsman
Cameron - spoilt for me by DS1's arch-enemy and David Cameron
Fergus - very similar associations to Angus
Kelvin - weedy American
Milo - tweenie or milky drink
Magnus - I'd assume he was Swedish
Oliver - nice, but with slightly posh overtones
Rory - similar to Angus and Fergus

floradora · 21/08/2018 23:31

knowledgeofnone · 21/08/2018 23:22

Amyrosebud · 21/08/2018 22:14

I like Rory and Oliver , the others are ok but dislike both Angus and Fergus, I just think of fungus.

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 22:10

Angus someone I went to infant school with!
Cameron popular for people my age.
Fergus nice
Kelvin temperature
Milo Murphy's law
Magnus I like it but it reminds me of him off mastermind albeit that is years ago
Oliver nice
Rory nice

Kingkiller · 21/08/2018 22:08

I really like them all except Kelvin and Cameron. Not because of David, but just that there are an awful lot of them about. I'm a teacher and have taught a lot of Camerons.

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2018 22:03

Hamish is the Scottish/Gaelic form of James. I like it. I like James but it's always very popular.

moredoll · 21/08/2018 02:22

Hamish is a nn for James. Can you sell it that way? I do love Hamish.

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 22:11

Angus- beef
Cameron- David Angry
Fergus- a west highland terrier
Kelvin- the racist dickhead on the TV
Milo- Tweenies
Magnus- cider (I know it’s magners but..)
Oliver - Twist
Rory- a lion

Oliver is my favourite, a real classic.

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 19:57

Bet there weren't many Margarets born between 1975 and 2005

mintich · 20/08/2018 18:57

@saoirsetheseahorse I like Hamish too but it was vetoed off the list! My boss is called Seamus so thats out!

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/08/2018 15:25

I didn't associate Cameron with David Cameron at all. Im in Scotland though and have my political knowledge is shocking so maybe that's why lol

SaoirseTheSeahorse · 20/08/2018 14:35

Rory
Angus
Magnus
Fergus
Milo

Love all these^^! These were all on our shortlist for ds and we did end up using one of them. We’re irish & English, already had a dc with an English name and used to live in Scotland, so wanted something which was both Scottish and Irish! I also loved Hamish and Seamus, but dh wasn’t keen.

LeeMiller · 20/08/2018 14:30

The name David Cameron probably won't mean as much to your son's generation though, the same with Milo and tweenies. So if Cameron's your favourite I wouldn't let that put you off unless it's ruined for you personally by the link.

Unfortunately you never know when a perfectly nice name is going to be ruined by some idiot who bears it becoming famous (or a product/brand taking off).

mintich · 20/08/2018 11:18

I really didn't think that everyone would associate Cameron with David which is definitely something to think about!
