Otis?

Currently TTC without much success but DH and I like to discuss baby names anyway.

He is on board with my other names - for a girl; Lydia or Elena and for a boy Henry or Winston. But he hates, hates, hates Otis! But I love it.

MN opinions?

Total mixed bag on here then!

DH does hate it, but he hates a lot of things before I tell him he’s wrong Grin!

I will just keep mentioning it and see how it goes.

Really not keen on the name Otis, I don't think you should choose it if your husband is so against it too, why pick a name one of you absolutely hates? I love Lydia and I think Elena is a really nice name too

DiegoMadonna · 19/08/2018 13:22

Love it!

bridgetreilly · 19/08/2018 13:08

Lifts.

But it doesn't really matter what we think. If the child's father hates the name, then you can't have it.

ShotsFired · 19/08/2018 13:02

Otis first made me think of lifts, then that aardvark. Your future child could never go up in a office block or skyscraper without someone mentioning it!

Only when someone mentioned Redding did I remember the singer (as much as I like his songs!)

And then I started thinking of Otitis, which is a general term for ear infection.

(Otto (as a pp suggested) makes me think of the pretentious character in Beetlejuice!).

Couldn't you just go with Oliver?

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2018 12:57

I think it is horrible and wet sounding

annainboots · 19/08/2018 08:27

Sorry OP, not keen on Otis. No clue as to why, but I imagine Otis being the name of a mouse or a llama, could never see it on a child. This is all simply a matter of personal opinion however. Your other chosen names are absolutely lovely!

motherlondon · 19/08/2018 08:09

Oh and best of everything in conception stakes. X

motherlondon · 19/08/2018 08:09

My little boy's best friend is Otis. He is a sunny delight of a kid, and it will be a lovely mans name too.
I can't imagine a baby Winston. But that just me.

Yogagirl123 · 19/08/2018 08:09

I like it Otis Redding, for me too!

PinkAvocado · 19/08/2018 08:08

Like Otis, love Otto which is similar I think. Really strongly dislike Winston!

deptfordgirl · 19/08/2018 08:06

My friend has just had a baby Otis. I think it's very sweet and she's quite trendsetting so it may be on the rise.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/08/2018 08:05

Love the name Otis! Classic, strong and easy to spell and say! Henry is so boring and overused in comparison, especially with a common surname.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 19/08/2018 07:00

Makes me think of the wonderful Otis Redding so 👍

RedDwarves · 19/08/2018 01:00

I love Otis, but if your husband hates it, it's non-negotiable.

moredoll · 19/08/2018 00:59

If you've got a plain surname, yes.

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2018 00:54

Hate it.

Goostacean · 19/08/2018 00:53

Oh even better, then enjoy!

Ah you said DH isn’t keen... well I guess I can see why someone might not like it, but it’s a question of taste rather than “oh my days NOOO!”

AnyaMoondial · 19/08/2018 00:30

I like it

PatchworkElmer · 19/08/2018 00:02

Love it!

Coco2891 · 19/08/2018 00:02

I like Otis , and Otto if you like O names x

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt · 19/08/2018 00:01

Haha Faster even that made me smile. I still love it! It’s such a good name.

Love the name Otis. It's so sweet for a child but also totally works on a man. I love all the names from the 1900's-1920's that are now coming back into vogue. Otis sounds trendy and modern, yet it's traditional and old man chic. I think you should try and win him over on this name.

Faster · 19/08/2018 00:00

This, to me, is Otis.
