‘Wet’ names?!

I have seen multiple threads today where people have called names ‘wet’-both boys and girls names. What is a ‘wet’ name?! I’m a bit puzzled by this concept.

They just sound a bit drippy. Percy reminds me of Lord Percy in Blackadder who was a very wet character.

For girls:
Cecily.
Lucinda, Felicity, Ottilie, Arabella. Names that are frilly but at the same time a bit wispy and nothingy (for my taste).

Sorry to mention Lucy. I too have a dd whose name is listed here, and I think she may one day be in charge of the world. Or at least the NHS.

I think as a child a knew a Lucy who was so repressed and over parented she came across as thwarted , so lacking in life force.

Ooh, Robin as a wet name? I associate it with actual robins, who are really feisty and territorial. What are other people associating it with to see it as wet?

To me, the ultimate wet name is Toby. But it's subjective...

Omg. Lucy has been mentioned 3 times. My DD is Lucy. A less 'wet' child I have yet to meet. She is rather closer to 'spirited' Grin

Has anyone seen GoT? Robin Arryn (Catelyn Stark's nephew) is the dictionary definition of wet.

No back bone, weak, a drip. I guess posters have known people with these qualities in life and maybe associate the name with the personality, or seen it in films/tv etc.

I actually know a Timothy (never called him that, he is just Tim), and he is the opposite of a wet person, it's just the connotations or person you imagine when you hear a name

Funny to see Robin mentioned straight away. Dh and I were just discussing it as we had decided it was too wet but we like Robbie. Peter, Timothy and Anthony would be mine. I don’t know what makes them ‘wet’.

Timothy has a wet sound to me and so does George although I know many people describe it as a strong male name.
