‘Wet’ names?!

I have seen multiple threads today where people have called names ‘wet’-both boys and girls names. What is a ‘wet’ name?! I’m a bit puzzled by this concept.

Agree with @ravenwings. For me any girls name that ends in an EE sound y-ie-ey etc Katie, Debbie, Tiffany, Jenny. I myself have a very wet dull name

Lucy, Emily, Sophie, Milly, Molly, Ellie etc are all wet names to me. There's nothing special about them and they're just kind of.. there.

For boys it'd be names like Timothy, Martin, Robin, Rupert, Percy. And the new -ie names like Archie, Ollie and so on.

Quite a bit of the time people say ‘wet’ they just mean posh - hence Julian, Rupert, Jonty etc.

Not me anyway CaseFace, I've never met anyone with the names I suggested as wet. It's the look and sound of them. I wouldn't think of Peter as wet at all though, so it's obviously perception. I think some people are thinking 'boring' names, but it's not the same thing imo.

My sons name has been mentioned on here. In my opinion it's not "wet" at all. It takes a strong man to carry a feminine name and vice versa.

I've also never heard of a wet name, I think it's more people associating those names with people they deem "wet".

One of my boys has been mentioned many times on here so I am probably unqualified to comment! I find the name Lily very wet and weak. Just the word unrelated to the name annoys me actually. I can't think of any other names that annoy me as much!

This is a funny thread! I think of wet names as kind of drippy, even 'thin' to look at, like Alec,Cecil, Nigel. I don't think Edmund or Daniel are wet (mentioned above). Seems like names with the letter i are what I think of. Cecily for a girl ties in!

Guilty - I did describe Felicity as wet in another thread.
Everyone has an instinctive reaction to a name and it's just a name I would associate with someone without a lot of gumption or vim.
My DD's name was actually mentioned up thread, but her namesake was a Norse warrior goddess so I disagree!
