‘Wet’ names?!

I suppose we often associate a name with the first person we first knew having that name, either real or fictional. For instance, for many people, would Sybil always be Fawlty, Mildred always be Hubble? But here is my short "wet" list, including one or two not mentioned so far, and I disagree about some others further up, such as Alice.

My list is:
William, Colin, Charlie, Malcolm, Johnny (not John), Bella or Belle, Jemima, Wendy.

Funnily enough I like the name Jemima, although I wouldn't want to use it for a DD of mine; it might forever be linked to "Puddle Duck". It's also been mocked on MN as a name for gently telling children off, as in "that isn't very nice, Jemima". And "Tarquin" for the "precious" child. And I thought Wendy was a wet name before I had even heard of how it's used on MN, as a nasty person who deliberately excludes somebody from a group.

As for Charlie: every time I hear it I keep thinking of Roald Dahl's phrase "to torture little Charlie", and the wetter than wet song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, "cheer up, Charlie".

'Donald' is forever tainted
'Nigel' is the worst name ever

Quangot, your list contains so many strong names! The only ones I would consider 'wet' are Heath, Albie, Faye, Libby, Letty and Lottie.

@FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast I'm keeping a look out for DD1's name... It's looking like she's my only non wet child lol. It doesn't look good for the babies to come as most names on our lists have been mentioned. DD2 has only been mentioned once but DS is on here a few times... Sorry little man lol.

What is ‘wet’ though?

Off the top of my head I can think of
Wet Lettuce (Greg, Jeremy)
Wet Blanket (Lee, Liam)
Wet behind the ears (Barry, Tim)

All describing a different ‘wet’ and I can come up with names that fit all 3 categories.

For me a "wet" name is bland, sad and a bit dismal. Some names that spring to mind are Norman, Linda and Geoff x

I don't know what qualifies a name to be "wet". My two children whose names have been mentioned are far from "wet" - They're little balls of fun, mischief and too much energy for my liking lol but that just goes to shows that this is completely subjective and doesn't actually reflect reality. You love the names so who cares?

Both my DS names on here, 2 mentions for DS1. I'd heard his name described as wet before, but never DS2.

Rupert has been mentioned here a lot whereas I think of that as a strong name.
