Thoughts on Fox as a middle name for DS? I think it’s too out there for a first but DH loves it so considering for a middle name and wanted opinions

Thanks for responses everyone, really helpful! Showed me how much I love it because even ‘mange’ and ‘cane toad’ made me laugh rather than put me off Grin

It's our sons middle name so I love it. He had a tough start and we weren't sure he was going to make it and I always think of foxes as survivors.

His twin sister also has a nature middle name and when I told my friend she asked me if I thought I was naming cats Grin

As someone said before, it’s a perfectly reasonable first or middle name here in North America. We had to talk to future SIL out of using it for a DC because of our last name.. Hunter. She hadn’t apparently thought through the whole name Grin

It's a bit like calling your child Camel or Cane Toad. The name of an animal which is deemed by many to be a pest.

(And I am not one of those people - but I know many people who hate foxes with a passion for what they do to wildlife and stock).

It has connotations of mange and slyness to me.

Either that or the rabid right wing broadcasting network.

As a middle name-why not! If he dislikes it he doesn’t have to disclose it to anyone else but may grow up and love it and start using it as his given name! Best of both worlds I say.

I love it. I know a couple (admittedly they are North American so maybe it is more normal there) but they used it as a middle name for their son. I really like it.

It’s getting borderline common here in leafy suburban SW London/Surrey

I know of three.

For me, it smacks of being too try hard, I’m sorry. In keeping with the “natural” theme though what about Rowan?

I agree its a bit much as a first name but really cool as a middle name. And if he really loves it why not? Middle names are rarely used except in formal documents etc

Surname isn’t Mulder (unfortunately Grin)
It does flow nicely with our chosen first name and surname

Whats the first name? I don't like it but I also think it doesn't matter that much, people don't really take too much notice of middle names as they get older he might just get the odd "haha your middle name is fox!?" as he gets older but that's it

I think as a middle name it's ok. I agree with a pp that it's a bit needy for a first name. A bit "look at me", y'know?

We've used it as a middle name. Still love it years on and so does he.
