Camille or Felicity?

Which name do you prefer as a sibling for Vivienne? With Camille we live in England so would go with the English pronounciation (Kah-meel) but nickname would be Cami so as the French pronounce Kah-mee. I love Felicity but struggle to find a nice nickname. Thanks in advance!

I know a Camille. She says the name as CAM-eel. I know several Camillas (Cam-illa) all get called Cam apart from the one who gets called Camel.

Superior or inferior is irrelevant, I didn’t say anything about ‘correct’ English either, it’s just what is standard. It still is standard and that is the English pronunciation taught to foreigners.

You’re the one who made the ludicrous claim about a ‘standard’ pronunciation in the ‘UK’, it was a ridiculous thing to say in the first place. I’ve never disputed regional accents exist.

If you ever hear Camilla Duchess of Cornwall referred to in the media it’s always ‘Cuhmilla’, I’ve never once heard it pronounced ‘Cahmilla’.

no it’s not. RP is dying out and is no longer considered superior to regional accents. It’s over 10 year since I studied phonetics but your concept of RP being “correct English” was dismissed as archaic and elitist then.

Standard pronunciation in English is RP. That’s what foreigners are taught. RP = Cuhmilla. I’ve never met a Kahmilla ever and I know a fuck of a lot of Camillas. If you speak French you know that Kahmille isn’t standard in French either.

Your posts are just nonsense. The pronunciation of Camille depends on your accent, just like any other word. I’m bilingual English and French. It’s standard in the Uk to pronounce the ‘l’ but obviously the vowel sounds will change depending on your accent.

However Camille is pronounced I prefer it to Felicity.

‘Standard in the UK’ is as an absurd phrase and not one that I came up with. The OP specified England and English pronunciation and that’s what I’m referring to. Standard for Scotland is a different matter.

Camille is nice, in both French and English.

Felicity usually becomes Flick or Fliss. I find Felicity/Fliss wet and Flick a bit harsh.

Tatiana, it depends where you live. In Scotland where I am we would (or I would) say Kahmeel or Kahmilla.

Camille goes slightly better with Vivienne imo but both Felicity and Camille are both lovely names and Fliss might work well as a nn

What is your Vivienne shortened to? I love the nickname Vivi. But do you want a Vivi and a Cami? A bit twee.

Another prion could be Camilla, then you have the option of Mila or Cami.

Felicity is a lovely name, but I’ve never liked any of the shortenings that much.
