Caroline or Rosie

Which do you prefer? DH isn't sold on either. Middle name would be Eirlys and something else.

Also any suggestions for a boy? Currently have a Rufus.

I have a Caroline who’s about to start school so she’s definitely not middle aged. It’s certainly unusual and has a middle aged vibe. I have a couple of friends who flinch when I tell her off as they use shortened versions and only get called their full names by their mothers!!

We (obviously) think it’s a lovely name and she currently has a nickname but it’s unusual and is what she called herself before she could say her name properly.

I’m pretty resigned to her being Caz or Carrie at some point in her life and am fairly sanguine about it. I’d rather she didn’t but won’t lose sleep over it!

Caroline by miles, and it goes better with Rufus. Rosie is a bit childlike/cutesy..

Love the name Rosie and it's potential nn's too Rose, Ro etc. Not keen on Carolines nn's (which they probably will be most known by) Caz, Carol

What about Rosa. It’s classic and beautiful. Not as popular as Rose, not as twee as Rosie, not as dull and middle aged as Caroline

My niece is a Rosemary shortened to Rosie.

I love it and it gives her other options as she gets older

I don't really get the whole nn thing. If you want to call your kid a nn then just call them that, not the long name on the birth certificate but no one ever knows that's their real name.

I don't like Rose. Kid can call themselves what ever they like once they are old enough.

Rosie. It’s popular but not everywhere. Or Rose nn Rosie.

Caroline’s I know are all at least 45. It’s in the same bracket as Susan, Wendy, Sandra etc for me. I do like Caro though, even as a stand alone name, although I know that’s a mn no no, to have a diminutive on the bc!

I like both but Rosie and Rufus aren’t great together.

So Caroline. Callie for short or just don’t shorten it!

Caroline is awful and Rose/Rosie is much more popular than Iris.

I prefer Carolyn, just putting that out there. I like Rosie too or Rose or Rosa. Boys names I love Sebastian, cash, sid, cathal (Irish pronounced kah-Hill).

Caroline. I like Rosie but prefer Caroline. Carrie or Carly (and Caz and Caro) are possible shortenings. Not too keen on Eirlys - I am aware that it means Snowdrop but the non-Welsh speakers will say it as Airluss.
Caroline Iris would be a possible combination. (Welsh-speaking people tend to say Iris as Eirys).

I love Caroline. I also like Rose/Rosie a lot, but there are SO MANY of them around atm.

I think Caroline is too classic to be dated in a bad way. If it's good enough for royals and for Ma in Little House on the Prarie then it's good enough to use.

My dd is called Rosie so I am biased, I do love Caroline too though. In her school of 400 children she is the only child called Rosie whereas there are I think three girls called Iris.

My favourite name in the world is Iris but DH doesn’t like it. Mum is Caroline and I adore it but would be unfair on MIL!

I think Caroline is underused and classic so gets my vote.

Must depend where you are AnyaMoondial. I've not met a Rosie under 10 but keep meeting iris's all the time!

I have a Rufus, it's a great name! I would have called him Iris if he'd been a girl; we have excellent taste I'm a huge fan of Rosie but I love Caro as a NN for Caroline.
