Sol for a girl?

I met a Spanish girl once called this and think it’s just lovely. It means “sun”.

Is it usable do you think? What associations come to mind?

Also, French speakers’ input appreciated: would this just be plain weird as a name to French ears, since “sol” means “floor” in French?

I really like Solana, Marisol and Soleil nn Sol.

Solera reminds me of cholera, tbh...

Oh I love it. I thought Marisol too. Adds to name list for future DC2... If you like it, use it! It's not offensive and after a while, Sol will just be your daughter's name, everyone will forget the current associations. I would use Marisol though just to be clear it's a girl - she could also choose to be Mari later in life if she didn't like Sol.

There's two Sols in the baby group I go to. They are both boys so personally I'd assume it was a boys name.

OK, thank you everyone. Not a feasible name option then, by the sounds of it. Shame, I think it’s really simple and pretty.

The Spanish Sol I met was definitely just Sol, so it can’t be all that strange in Spanish? But I take all your very good points!

Absolutely love the name Sol, for a boy though.
Would be shortened from Solaris for me!

Sol in Spanish is also a masculine noun, obviously fine as a shortening for more typical girls names (Soledad, Marisol as mentioned) but as a stand alone name I find it a bit strange from a Spanish language point of view

Sol in French is weird. Not only does it mean floor/ or ground, but also a musical note (do, re, mi, fa , SOL, la, si, do)

i know a Solera, I think that's a pretty name. I also like Sol but think it's quite boyish.
