What is Sadhbh’s sister called?

Due dc2 next spring- boys name sorted as we’re using a family name. Having more trouble with a girls name.

Dd is Sadhbh (pronounced Sive, rhymes with 5) which was DH’s pick. Ideally would go for another Irish name, but every irish girl’s name I’ve looked at is either

  1. Hideous (looking at you, Gobnait) Or
  2. very frequently used as it isn’t hideous (lovely names like Aoife and Ciara)

We are in Ireland so spelling etc isn’t an issue. I like Elinor, so it doesn’t need to be an Irish name (but I don’t love it).

Please hit me with inspiration- DH has just seriously suggested Blaithín so I’ve given up there.

Have come across most of these names through Irish speaking distant rellies.

Think it has to be Caoimhe (pronounced Kweeva).

But a possibility could be Muiríosa (pronounced Marissa) ? Although not sure if it has religious connotations Shock

I think Sadhbh and Caoimhe sound the best out of everything suggested so far!

IVflytrap · 13/08/2018 00:16

I heard Siofra the other day, which I thought was lovely.

Elinor is lovely (prefer that spelling over Eleanor). I also like Elin.

I also have a Sadhbh :)

Would name a sister Siobhan probably!

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2018 00:01

Yer one from the Saturdays is spelled Úna though, which sounds a tiny bit more modern than Oonagh, but still would sit a bit oddly on a baby. I don't know an Úna under the age of 50. Give it another 20 years & I predict a revival.

SisterNotCisTerf · 13/08/2018 00:01

Ooh i do like Elinor OP!

RavenWings · 12/08/2018 23:56

I feel like Oonagh might be a bit more wearable thanks to yer one from the Saturdays. Though I still can't imagine it on anyone not approaching retirement age tbqh.

TheCraicDealer · 12/08/2018 23:55

Just call her after her favourite aunt Grin

OkPedro · 12/08/2018 23:47

Isn't Naoise pronounced Knee Sha?
And Laoise Lee Sha?
I had them on my list
Love them both

Aisling
Aoife
Siobhan

dinosaurkisses · 12/08/2018 23:44

@RavenWings DH was trying to convince me (and probably himself) that Oonagh was a goer, despite not knowing anyone under 60 with that name

Sadhbh is my favourite Irish girls' name, I just love it. I'd call her sister Fiadh, which is my second favourite.

I couldn't use either as I had boys, and the English side of the family would've been Confused

SheisMammyof2 · 12/08/2018 23:41

Aoife
Niamh
Laoise
Gráinne
Eibhlín
All would be lovely with Sadhbh, however my favourite is Aisling. This would have been DS2's girl name. Please don't use Aoibheann though as it just has too many potential pronunciations and your DC will spend their life correcting people.
