What is Sadhbh’s sister called?

Due dc2 next spring- boys name sorted as we’re using a family name. Having more trouble with a girls name.

Dd is Sadhbh (pronounced Sive, rhymes with 5) which was DH’s pick. Ideally would go for another Irish name, but every irish girl’s name I’ve looked at is either

  1. Hideous (looking at you, Gobnait) Or
  2. very frequently used as it isn’t hideous (lovely names like Aoife and Ciara)

We are in Ireland so spelling etc isn’t an issue. I like Elinor, so it doesn’t need to be an Irish name (but I don’t love it).

Please hit me with inspiration- DH has just seriously suggested Blaithín so I’ve given up there.

I am also in Ireland and thinking of Elinor! FYI there has only been one year since 1964 when at least three girls were called it.

villainousbroodmare - I’m afraid it’ll be William (Will) for a boy after my grandad. It’s been my number 1 boys name since I was about 13 so DH had to get on board!

It’ll be William Tiernan or William Donnacha since DH gets to pick the middle name this time

@villianousbroodmare yep, couldnt decide on boys name, kept flipping - so lucky we had a girl in the end !!

For me Saoirse is Seer sha
Sorcha.. my friends daughter is Sur ah ka
But I've heard it pronounced Sur ka and Sur sha

Sorcha is a different name to Saoirse - it means "bright" or "radiant" and is pronounced Sorr-kha or Sorr-sha depending on dialect.

Oh yes, Sorcha was my other favourite. I love Dara for a girl but used it for Sadhbh's twin brother in the end.

Dinosaurkisses I'm rocking my 2 mo DD Sadhbh Elinor to sleep here! My pronunciation explanation is identical to yours too.
My shortlist included Ailbhe and Muireann, Dara and Meadhbh. I like Lasairfhíona and Aedamair but thought possibly too much of a mouthful. (I wanted a name where it could potentially be spelled phonetically without looking ridiculous- that ruled out Aoife = Eefa.) I wasted Emer on my cat 😸

What about Siun? I think it's really pretty.
I know several Oonaghs who are all primary school age so it must have had a revival around these parts.

Doireann is lovely.
And Blaithnid..dh might like
Cait with a fada of course.
I don't think Muireann is a mouthful and there is no issue.
Una is lrish for Agnes and Gobnaith is lrish for Deborah/ Debbie
