Meredith?

Does anyone like this name? I think the nickname Merry is cute for a child, with the full name sounding sufficiently professional.

Is it a little dated though?

I love it and Meredydd was on my shortlist. Which way would you pronounce it however?

SemperIdem · 13/08/2018 14:05

I have never seen Meredith used as a male name in Wales. Only the traditional Welsh spelling, Meredydd. Which does indeed have a distinct pronunciation to the angliscised Meredith.

I would expect a Meredydd to be Male (and Welsh) and a Meredith to be female (and English or American).

I really like it and always thought of it as a girls name til DH was adament it was a boys! still really like it though... and works for both
and the othrs on your list but not Bryony and Jasmine (there were a lot around 2005 near us so ok but not as good as your others )
Adeleide is really good as well although prefer Astrid/Ursula to Heidi

Moominfan · 13/08/2018 10:41

I like both but can't help picture a morbid stroppy teen called merry :)

starkid · 13/08/2018 10:40

I like Merry, but not sure of Meredith. Don't know why!

NaToth · 13/08/2018 10:37

Agree with PP. Meredith is a male name with a distinct pronunciation.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2018 10:25

Love Meredith and would use it in a heartbeat if it didn't clash with my surname. Love nn Merri but also like Edie

Also love Bryony from your list

TobysToblerone · 13/08/2018 00:16

It’s fabulous & was on our girls’ list a while ago. Also on list but not chosen were Naomi, Robyn, Clementine, Ramona, Francesca and Polly

SuitedandBooted · 12/08/2018 21:52

I like it, but I know it as a Welsh boy's name, which I would pronounce as Mer-RED -ith, with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Heidi is lovely.

hoping2018 · 12/08/2018 11:08

I just think of Meredith brooks:

"I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a child, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I'm your hell, I'm your dream
I'm nothing in between
You know you wouldn't want it any other way"

I think most people parents age would think of this?! Maybe it'd just me? Lol

Also are you Welsh? It's a fairly traditional Welsh name so if you have no connections to Wales I'd have a careful think......

I love Heidi! Quite like bryony and Evelyn.

BellBookandCandle · 11/08/2018 09:42

I love it! Also like Meriel - lovely name and you don't meet many of them.

I really like Miranda as well from your list. Not so keen on the others personally

LivLemler · 11/08/2018 06:11

I love it. DH vetoed because of Grey's Anatomy. Sad I don't particularly love any of the other names on your list, so we mustn't have similar taste, but love love love Meredith.

HeyDolly · 11/08/2018 02:25

Really like it. Also love the name Merryn.

DiegoMadonna · 11/08/2018 01:15

I like it a lot! Also love Heidi.

Alexarthur · 11/08/2018 00:26

@bendydick

We clearly do have similar tastes! I love Adelaide and will be adding that to the list if dh agrees ☺️

Also love Heidi, Imogen, Gabriella and Freya, but they've already been used by close friends/siblings. We're considering Heidi as a middle name though - I think Meredith Heidi flows quite well with our surname.

Local bus company, only they've missed out the necessary apostrophe. They put the emphasis on the second syllable, so Mer-EH-dith, rathan MER-eh-dith.

thisismadness77 · 11/08/2018 00:03

Top of my list today!

FloatyFlo · 10/08/2018 23:59

Meredith Blake from the parent trap comes to mind. However I still really like it!

Lucylookingforhelp · 10/08/2018 23:57

I really love it but may be biased as have been worn down by my love for Grey’s Anatomy

HollyHocks13 · 10/08/2018 23:51

I love it, fabulous Welsh name that suits a child or an adult. Go for it!

Notmyrealname85 · 10/08/2018 23:49

I knew a Meredith nn “Dee” tho her DSD always calls her Riri :)

Picknickers · 10/08/2018 23:47

Too American?! It's Welsh! Best of your list for me.

drigon · 10/08/2018 23:38

Like Meredith!

mastertomsmum · 10/08/2018 23:31

Meredith - too American for me

Miranda - sounds good in The Tempist but more dull in real life

Jasmine - Ok, if not pronounced the French way

Briony/Bryony - pony club ish

Morgan - always sounds like a boy

Aurelia - pretty and Disney/Fairytale

Evelyn - old person name
