Perrie

Dh suggested this today for a girl and I think I quite like it.

I'm not quite sure how to spell it though - Perrie, Peri, Perry...?

I'm also unsure whether it should be short for anything - I think I met a Turkish Peri once whose full name was Perihan, but I'm not sure we could use that for a 100% Welsh kid!

I like Perrie, it's spunky :)

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 12/08/2018 23:55

Peri is medical to me (as others said, peri-menopause etc).
Perry seems "male" like Terry.
Wasn't Perdita the mum of the 1,001 Dalmatians? I do quite like it tho.
Perrie Edwards Little Mix v famous, but up to you if that's an issue. I quite like it, strong not too "girly" and could go with lots of middle and last names easily.

DuvetCaterpillar · 12/08/2018 23:07

Peri is a mostly archaic word for a fairy, particularly in Persian mythology. The only place I've seen it used that way though is in Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe, a satire in which fairies wreak havoc in the House of Lords - the subtitle of the opera is 'The Peer and the Peri'

I rather like it!

longestlurkerever · 12/08/2018 23:06

Dd has a book with a fairy called Periwinkle NN Peri

elQuintoConyo · 12/08/2018 23:02

Peri Gilpin sprung instantly to my mind. Ut's lovely.

Perry is the male equivalent, which just reminds me of the mean doctor in Scrubs Grin

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 12/08/2018 22:57

Peri Brown from Dr Who. Hers was short Perpugilliam though

Spartasprout · 12/08/2018 21:20

Peri immediately made me think perineum

Heratnumber7 · 12/08/2018 20:27

Peri-menopause Blush

I know a Perihan too, but I don't like it when people use names from cultures other than their own.

Perdita is nice.

Redsharks · 12/08/2018 20:12

Love the name Peri, spelt that way, as a nickname/ known name for Perpetua.

I don't mind it spelt Perrie either, but Perry for me is a more masculine spelling as PP had said.

It's a beautiful name stood alone though to be fair, wouldn't have to be as a nickname/ known name.

AMAAAA · 12/08/2018 20:06

I know a Perreline nn Perrie. Def not Peri, it's a medical prefix as in peri-menopausal, peri-natal etc.

rainingcatsanddog · 12/08/2018 20:03

Peri will become Peri Peri Chicken.

kenandbarbie · 12/08/2018 20:02

It makes me think of pear cider. I don't really like it.

SassitudeandSparkle · 12/08/2018 19:53

Yep, Little Mix (Perrie) or Frasier (Peri Gilpin) here came to mind. It's a nice name.

RavenWings · 12/08/2018 19:48

Immediately thought of Little Mix. Not sure if that's a good or bad association.

Sessy19 · 12/08/2018 14:47

I love this!! Peri is an AWESOME name xx

AuntieStella · 10/08/2018 23:24

The only Perry I know in RL is a man

buttercup54321 · 10/08/2018 22:38

BellMcEnd · 10/08/2018 22:36

I knew a lovely Perin once. Not so keen on Peri / Perry etc

GreenTulips · 10/08/2018 22:34

I though platypus ..., Funnius and Ferb

GoatYoga · 10/08/2018 22:31

Only know of Peri Gilpin - great actress.

HJL2506 · 10/08/2018 21:32

Not Peri. It reminds me of piri piri chicken!

I prefer Perrie!

daisypond · 10/08/2018 21:17

And there's a Peri (girl) in Hollyoaks. I'm not keen, but I do like Perrine, as was mentioned. I've not heard of that before. It's a female form of Pierre, apparently.

Perfectly1mperfect · 10/08/2018 21:12

There's a Perrie in Little Mix. People may think of Kevin and Perry as well.

lapenguin · 10/08/2018 21:06

Perrine is a nice name, very old French name

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 10/08/2018 20:59

I think peri menopause as well.
