Persephone, Beatrix or.....?

We’ve just found out dc3 is a girl and obviously all I can think about now is names.

We have two boys called Rufus and Felix, I don’t mind names not ‘matching’ but it gives you an idea of what we like. I prefer names that aren’t too popular. If dc3 had been another boy I’d have been pushing for the name Magnus.

I like Beatrix and Diana, dh likes Persephone, Jemima and Penelope. We’ve got a few months to go but I don’t feel like anything is really clicking for me yet so very open to suggestions. (Also I may still be in shock that it’s a girl!)

Haven't read all comments but I like Beatrix. Diana is also nice but don't like the thought of the nickname 'Di'. Jemima is horrible to me and Persephone I quite like but personally wouldn't use as it's too exotic for me. I like vintage and traditional names. I think Beatrix goes best with your boys

Love the Greek names, but Penelope is my favourite out of your choices.
My Dh vetoed most of the more unusual names for our girls so I now use them to name the chickens!

Gloria is nice, not sure I could saddle a baby with the nickname Hippo Grin.

Karenza is lovely, we have lots of Cornish ancestry/family so I’d like a name from there. Dh loves Demelza but I think it’s mostly due to ‘er from Poldark. I love Elowen but it’s more of a middle name idea.

I agree that I don’t really like the idea of shouting Persephone across the playground. Dh and I each chose a name when we had the boys. There is going to be a lot more compromising this time around!

Love love love your list - v similar to mine when I had dd. Wanted beatrix to shorten to trixie which I love.
Also had Eden, Clara, Tabitha, Camilla, Stella and Giselle.

You might balk at having to spell a 10 letter name every time though.

It’s not like being able to say Katy with a y.

Meant to say that when I give my name, it doesn’t bother me to give my spelling and if it’s just to book a table or something where the spelling doesn’t matter, I just let them write it down anyway they like.

People worry too much about ‘the child will always have to spell it out’

I have a 4 letter name, it’s more commonly spelt with 5 or even 6 letters. So every time I give it out I have to say it’s xxxx and that is spelt...

Same with a colleague called Lucy, I hear her on the phone all the time saying “no it’s with a Y not an I E” when i’d never even question Lucy as anything other than a Y.

OP I think Rufus, Felix and Diana Persephone is lovely
Plus it’s accidentally a 5 letter name for all

I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix. Beatrix too Harry Potter baddy sounding.

Diana - ok, retro.

Persephone - too posh! I have a similar name I am sometimes self conscious of.

Jemima - nice, unusual.

Penelope - ok, not that keen.

Beautiful names,

I love Penelope and Beatrix. Both have lovely short names and carry well throughout life.

Other names I feel suit your sons names

Thea-Greek Titaness of light.
Juno-Queen of the heavens
Serephina-fiery wings (goes well with Rufus)
Astrid
Artemis-nn Arty
Blythe

CheesePlease I grew up with both a first name and surname that needed spelling every time, so I suppose I don’t see it as a big deal either. I was a bit gutted when I married and changed surname to something much more common!

I quite like Persephone and Beatrix, although I agree with PP about pronunciation for Persephone. What about Xanthe or Isolde?

I like Verity and Iris. Better not go for Tabitha or all the kids will have cat/dog names Grin.

I’m really feeling Diana, no doubt dh will keep pushing Persephone. We will see if Greek or Roman wins!

Love your boys' names and all your suggestions (except Camilla), especially Persephone. I think it would be fine and I certainly don't know any. I have a Miranda (DD) and Cordelia (cat) and also on my list were Ianthe, Artemis, Hebe and Ophelia.
