Henry, Harry, Freddie or Bertie?

Pls help! Our baby boy is already here and we can't decide on a name. It's causing endless of arguments. We've currently opted for Henry but neither of us seem to love it ( my husband prefers Harry and I Freddie (Frederick)). We're also considering Albert/Bertie but not sure we're brave to go with the name. Pls let me know what you think. Makes me sad that my rainbow baby (had 2 losses last year) still hasn't got name. :-( x

Yeah I suspected as much nopoohbear especially with Harry. Thought Bertie would be a bit more unusual. Do you mind me asking where you are? X

THeyre nice but so popular at the mo (where I am anyway)- I have a 2 year old and in my local toddler groups I hear so many Freddie’s, Henrys, HarryS and Berties. I think it’s a bit like the Lisa/Sarah of the next generation

I really wanted Bertie for my DS but DH vetoed it. I’m still a bit sad about it.

Ha good idea. It was his favourite throughout the whole pregnancy but he’s now not feeling it...

Which I love- otherwise keep pushing For Freddie- just keep calling him it and see if you DH starts to like it?

Joseph is kinda in the same genre as these names- just to throw a spanner in the works?

Thanks Willowrose but a friend of mine’s got a Harrison so can’t go there I’m afraid. Thinking it’s between Henry, Freddie (if my husband let’s me) and Bertie now x

Thanks all. We’re going to try to nail it this weekend so any more comments are very welcome. If it was up to me it’d probably be Freddie but I know my OH isn’t that keen. Or maybe our LO will be bean forever....

I am a bit biased, but I have a Bertie and 7 years later I still love his name - I like how it's not a made up name but is not that common either. Although if you know anyone who can't pronounce the 't' in the middle of words properly it gets a bit annoying.

My friend had her baby Albert in April this year. It really suits him and couldn't imagine him called anything else. I think if you lov rit go for it. His name isn't shortened to Bertie.

I love Harry, but it's also a nn for Henry
I like Freddie, but dislike Bertie.

I love Henry. My future DS will probably be a Henry. As PP suggest Harry is a cute nickname for a little boy if you prefer. Or you could give him Albert as a middle name and call him by that then he decides when old enough? It's your decision x

Love Henry and Freddie. Harry is just too popular for my liking and really not keen on Bertie.
Also really love Teddy (nn for Edward) and Toby which are similar to your choices.

Strictly speaking you could keep your options open by making his full name Henry, known as Harry. I know that might seem a bit dated now that Harry is popular as a name in it's own right, but it's the traditional way (and what they did for Prince Harry!) and I doubt if many people would find it really odd. I kind of like Freddie but Bertie is not my thing, it sounds like someone terribly posh to me.

OP Alfred is actually less popular than Albert! It's 120th-ish on the names list; Albert is 60-something.

Captaincucumber yes it would be short for Albert as I prefer having the longer version as then he’s got a choice esp as Bertie is a bit cutesy. Same for Freddie, we’d use Frederick. Probably avoid Alfred as it’s so popular now and likely to be shortened to Alfie. As you can see I’m way overthinking this... x

Freddie & Bertie are lovely names, then when they older they have the option of Fred & Bert if they like.

Must say I love Freddie!
One of my boys has Fred as a nickname even though it's nowhere near his real name, my husband called him it one day when he was a lot younger Confused and it just stuck so now he answers to Fred & his own name!

Bertie!
DS’s best mate’s little brother (he’s 14, so he isn’t so little!) is Bertie and it’s such a cool name.
Everyone loves the guy named Bertie. It’s just got a really optimistic ring to it.
