Hi! My hubby and I are both fans of crime fiction, and we recently stumbled upon a name we love: Dashiell (after 1940s author Dashiell Hammett). We are enamoured with the name, but we're a bit unsure how other people will take to such an "unconventional" name--thoughts?! Thanks!

'Dashiell Robert Parr you are a very competitive boy' The Incredibles.

It's a fab name but definitely reminds one of The Incredibles.

Maireadd · 08/08/2018 13:23

Love it! It’s on our long list for a boy too.

pippra · 08/08/2018 11:04

i like it! Go for it!

Icklepup · 08/08/2018 10:40

I like it

RachelAnneJ · 08/08/2018 10:18

It's not that out there, my children are at two different schools and there is one (both boys) at each school.

I suspect it's a name that will become increasingly popular over the next couple of years. A pregnant friend of mine is also intending to use it if she has a boy.

Berniethecrabisthebest · 08/08/2018 10:14

Yes dashiel Robert pare- the incredibles Smile

BrutusMcDogface · 08/08/2018 10:13

I think it's fab for a boy! Use it! Smile

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 10:12

It's a great name imo :)

ladycarlotta · 08/08/2018 10:09

Great name. I know an adult Dashiell, also Dash for short.

TheVanguardSix · 08/08/2018 09:40

As a boy’s name it’s awesome.

TatianaLarina · 08/08/2018 09:40

I like unconventional names as long as they’re not mayde-uppe. GFI.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/08/2018 09:37

Very nice, love Dash.

Joeybee · 08/08/2018 09:29

I had never head the name till i started watching a Mum vlogger on Youtube who named her son Dashiell. I have really gotten used to the name, and Dash is a lovely nickname too. I think people would get used to it. It's unusual, but not common, tacky and made up, it's just a traditional, old name that needs to be revived.

witherwings · 08/08/2018 09:11

I think it will be pretty well known by current generation of kids (and their parents) because of The Incredibles films. I like it for a boy.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2018 22:54

I like it. I wouldn't use it myself, but I like it. Only for a boy though.

bridgetreilly · 07/08/2018 22:07

To be clear, I think it's great for a boy. Weird for a girl.

TheGoldenWolfFleece · 07/08/2018 22:07

I like it. Unusual but not crazy.

bridgetreilly · 07/08/2018 22:06

I think it's great, and although unusual, not weird.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/08/2018 21:32

I love it, but couldn't convince DH

CocoLoco87 · 07/08/2018 21:31

I like it, and love Dash for short

fruityb · 07/08/2018 21:27

Cate Blanchett has a boy one and Milla Jovovich has a girl one.

I love it I think Dash is a great shortened name as well.

redmini4 · 07/08/2018 21:26

Love Dashiell, my second favourite boys names. Use it!!

Clairetree1 · 07/08/2018 21:25

its the boy in "The Incredibles", isn't it

IWouldBeSuperb · 07/08/2018 21:22

Isn't this the son's name in The Incredibles?

Nicknamed 'Dash' because of his super speed?!

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/08/2018 21:19

Is it male or female? I've never heard of it so I would consider it out there, but if you both love it and it has meaning to you then don't let anyone stop you using it !
