Evangeline or Alexa?

Hi, am new on here but thought I’d give starting a thread a go as I’ve been loving reading the baby name ones Smile Me and DH both love Evangeline and Alexa but are having problems choosing between them. Whilst I love how beautiful Evangeline is I’m worried it’s a bit long and frilly whereas Alexa (nn Lexie) gives the impression (at least to me) of someone strong. Middle name would be Violet, although this isn’t set in stone, and would love to hear what you guys think

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No to Alexa due to the robot thing. Violet is lovely too. Evangeline has lovely shortenings so trumps it a bit IMO though some people like names that can't be shortened. But possible Lettie?

Cherubfish · 07/08/2018 18:03

My problem with Evangeline is that the nicknames (Eve / Evie / Eva) are so common at the moment.

How about Georgia - similar ish?

Frazzled2207 · 07/08/2018 18:02

I love Evangeline. Showing my age a bit here but does anyone else remember the House of Elliott?

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 18:00

@AmyRhodes haha it’d probably end up with them not even bothering

Evangeline is beautiful.

You're right that Alexa is a nice name and that the Amazon Echo shouldn't result in the name being avoided, but the fact is, if you name her Alexa you better hope NO ONE who knows you owns an Echo. They will never be able to mention you or your daughter without awakening the beast.

It'll be:

"X has had her baby, she's called Alexa."
Alexa: "Thanks, OK, great."

"Let's go see X and her baby Alexa."
Alexa: "Sure, here's the quickest route."

And so on, forever and ever.

Evangeline. It's on my list. It's beautiful

upsideup · 07/08/2018 17:18

I love Evangeline, there are so many nn's you can get from that.
I know a 6 year old Evangeline who gets called Angel or Angie and a 2 year old that gets called Evie

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:16

Oh sorry just saw your pp

@ravenwings Violet any better?

OP posts:
Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:15

@cointreauversial yes it’s apparently another disorder that affects reading but usually caused after an injury

OP posts:
RavenWings · 07/08/2018 17:12

Violet is nice.

RavenWings · 07/08/2018 17:11

Evangeline - lovely but just blends into the pack of Eva/Evie/Ava etc names.
Not madly keen on Alexa, I think it's a bit nothingy but it's better than the Eva horde.

CointreauVersial · 07/08/2018 17:11

I'm confused....Is Alexia a disorder?? Like Dyslexia?

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:10

@smilingbutclueless Alexandra’s always made me imagine horse obsessed snob. Sorry to any Alexandra’s! But thank you for the suggestion x may have to just let Lexie go

@barneymcgroo ooh hadn’t thought about Nina as a nn, love that!!

OP posts:
barneymcgroo · 07/08/2018 17:04

I wanted Evangeline, Vanina or Nina as a NN. Go for it!

SmilingButClueless · 07/08/2018 17:03

Evangeline’s nice.

Definitely not Alexa for the reasons PPs have said. You could use Alexandra instead if you love the nickname Lexie?

MaryH90 · 07/08/2018 17:03

Evangeline is lovely!

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:02

My DH has just suggested we put Violet up in the shortlist of first names and was wondering what you all think about that compared to Evangeline. (I’ll regard Alexa as ruled out)

OP posts:
Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:00

@cointreauversial would be great but it being a disorder really puts me off :) The shortening would be fine with me as long as it’s Eva and not Evie who was a really nasty girl in my class at school Grin

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 07/08/2018 16:59

How about Alexia as a slight variation?

Evangeline is a nice name, but will always be shortened, which would drive me potty. I know two Evangelines. One is shortened to Evie, and one is called Geli.

pilates · 07/08/2018 16:56

Definitely Evangeline, lovely

Glaciferous · 07/08/2018 16:55

Evangeline. Alexa sounds really dated. Ditto Alexis.

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/08/2018 16:52

I know an Evangeline who is Evie, it’s very pretty and unusual. Alexa sounds like a device.

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 16:51

Alexis maybe?
