Alasdair?

This is the only name we can both agree on equally for a boy. We’re unsure which spelling to use but leaning to Alasdair.

What are people’s thoughts?

Alasdair was my first choice for DS but DH vetoed it. As it's a Gaelic name, Alasdair is the correct spelling.

It's a great name and good with either spelling, chose the one you want.

Alistair does seem to be more popular so we might go for that spelling!

Nice name. I think Alistair will be the more usual spelling that people will tend to go for in England, but Alasdair is fine. I know quite a few Alistairs/Alasdairs and some are shortened to Ali as well as Al.

One of the reasons we like it is because we think Al is acceptable nickname. We’ve had real problems with names we like but hate the shortening of (we like Nicholas but not nick, Charles but not Charlie etc)

I would go with Alistair. Nice name. Will get called Al.

We’re in England. I know whichever way we choose, he will have to spell it as there are various spellings. DS1 has a name like that and always has to spell it even though it’s a known name due to there being multiple spellings. It doesn’t bother us but we’d like to make it as easy as possible for him!

With spelling, I think it depends where you are - Alistair is more common in England with Alasdair more Scottish
