Margarita or Caroline?

We can't decide between:

Caroline Margarita - we would like the nickname Callie but would be fine with Carrie

Margarita Caroline - nickname Maggie

We're sure on these two names, as they're in honour of relatives called Carol and Margaret - we just can't decide which to make the first name and which the middle name.

Caroline is lovely and classic.
Margarita is definitely a pizza to me.

Branleuse · 05/08/2018 14:13

Margarita is lovely.

Caroline is boring. Ive never liked the name

Camomila · 05/08/2018 14:01

I thought the pizza was Margherita?

My DGM is Margherita. If I was to use a similar name for a future DD she'd probably be Margot (nickname Maggie)

bridgetreilly · 05/08/2018 12:48

Caroline and Margarita/Maggie are, we think, sufficiently similar to honour our friends, but sufficiently different to avoid confusion.

The question is whether your friends think that. If it were me, I would not feel in any way honoured by a child being given a name similar to but not mine.

MadMaryBoddington · 05/08/2018 07:28

Marguerite is beautiful.

NotAgainYoda · 05/08/2018 05:46

Caroline - and I love Callie

Margarita will be identified with Pizza or Cocktail

Can I just throw

Christina
Anita
Margot

into the ring too?

triwarrior · 05/08/2018 05:08

Margarita - cheap drink beloved of hen nights and college kids on spring break.

Caroline - classic and beautiful.

(For the love of God, don’t name a child Margarita. It’s on a par with Chardonnay.)

Evialevia · 05/08/2018 04:11

It's also slightly odd if you're naming her after a Margaret not to call her Margaret (unless one of you is Latino)

Princess Margaret's granddaughter is called Margarita - named after Margaret!

So it's good enough for the royals...

OlennasWimple · 05/08/2018 00:55

Margarita is a drink, a pizza or a terrible singer. It's also slightly odd if you're naming her after a Margaret not to call her Margaret (unless one of you is Latino)

Go with Caroline

Kokeshi123 · 05/08/2018 00:43

Margarita has too many menu connections.

Caroline is not bad. I like Caro as a nickname....

Picknickers · 04/08/2018 23:38

The most evil person I've ever met...and I mean properly evil not just unpleasant...was called Caroline so that puts me off. Maybe time to reclaim it for the good side though!

moredoll · 04/08/2018 23:17

Caroline, nn Caro?

Emeryski · 04/08/2018 21:12

I do like Caroline Margot.

I hadn't fully considered all the pizza/alcohol connotations of Margarita!

And to the poster who says it's not honouring them unless you use their actual name, we don't want to use Carol or Margaret, because the ladies who we're naming our dd after are still alive and will hopefully be a huge part of her life, so we think it would be a bit confusing if we called her Carol/Margaret.

Caroline and Margarita/Maggie are, we think, sufficiently similar to honour our friends, but sufficiently different to avoid confusion.

As Margarita isn't the name of the person you're honouring, I agree with pp, go for Margaret, Margot or Marguerite. The cocktail/pizza association is strong with Margarita, so I'd choose Caroline Margarita on that basis.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 18:09

I like them both, but I really like Caroline - much nicer than Charlotte, I think. Caroline Margarita/Margaret/Marguerite/Margot is very nice. You could have Caro for short as well, which also means darling in Italian, though it should be Cara for a girl - which could also be possible, if you fancy that.

Agustarella · 04/08/2018 16:46

Margarita Caroline is beautiful.

bobsandvagene · 04/08/2018 16:45

Margarita just make me think of the cocktail, like someone naming their child Chardonnay

Caroline is lovely

bridgetreilly · 04/08/2018 16:36

Carol Margaret
Margaret Carol

It doesn't honour anyone to call your child by a name which isn't theirs.

Raines100 · 04/08/2018 14:48

Caroline nn Callie is gorgeous.
Marguerite is also lovely with a great choice of nn. Margarita not so much.

FrozenMargarita17 · 04/08/2018 14:29

I like margaritas, wait. Margarita :)

schnubbins · 04/08/2018 14:12

Caroline .I love that name so much.

MargotMoon · 04/08/2018 13:17

Caroline! 💖

MiniAlphaBravo · 04/08/2018 13:16

Margarita sounds like a cocktail so I definitely wouldn’t use it. Caroline is very nice.

DramaAlpaca · 04/08/2018 13:16

Caroline is much nicer.

HeyDolly · 04/08/2018 13:15

I much prefer Marguerite. As others have said Margarita is a pizza/cocktail.
