I've given my son a really common name

Vincent is a proper name though. It's the made up names that people will judge. I don't think it matters how popular it becomes and its not often heard at the moment. You're worrying about nothing 😊

I don't think it's too common but my little girl (who has a very rare name) is only 11 weeks old and so I'm not visiting any nurseries yet.

Speaking of CV's.. I remember when I was looking through them with my OH when he had to hold interviews and we were both more drawn to the unusual names and realised we were looking through those more. I guess we felt that an unusual name would maybe make for a more interesting person! Which isn't necessarily true.. But nevertheless, they were the ones that caught our eye first.

Vincent is lovely!! Definitely not too common. Maybe it's gaining popularity but not as popular as Jack or Harry or Alfie (which are all lovely too, imo)

It’s a brilliant name, uncommon; think of Vincent Van Gogh, best painter in the world and Vincent Price, memorable actor. Not many Vincents out there.

If you think about it, the majority of people give their child a really common name.

I’ve known two Vincents my whole life. One was a French exchange student in 1998, the other was a dog. It’s not common at all and it’s a pretty cool name tbh.

DS1 has a name that was common when I was growing up but is much rarer now. He had another boy with the same name in his nursery class but other than that, zilch. And so what? Even if there were a dozen of the same name I'd still like it.

I wouldn't worry about Vincent being popular! I know of someone who has a son called Vinnie. But not Vincent.

My boy is called Stanley and that is far more heard of, although I've not personally met another one.

I love Vincent! It was on the list for my ds but I have to admit that I was put off by knowing 2 other Vincents and a Vinnie all under 3.

I chose a similar type of name (Leonard) which I knew none of but since having him I know of 2 more

i grew up with a very unusuak[for it's time] name. I never met another kid with the name-even now i think i have only met a few people with the same.
I hated it. Absolutely hated it. I hated being instantly recognisable to everyone and memorable for having the 'weird' name.
I hated never being able to get a pencil with my name on. I hated people always commenting on it. I hated people wondering if it was short for... or calling me the similar but wrong name that it sounded a bit like.

When i had my kids i wanted them to have names that other kids have. My youngest is part of a gang of friends and there are 4 of them with the same name. Doesn't bother any of them one iota and i love it because he stands ou for his personality and his talents not for having a name that noone else has.

It probably won't end up a big deal. Even if it is more common, it doesn't mean there will be loads in your area and even if so, there will be other ways around it: nicknames, going by a middle name or surname (the latter happened at one of the high schools I went to, several Michaels and Jons and quite a few were pretty much known by their surnames more than their first).

I mean, boys tend to be named from a smaller pool of name than girls , so it's a pretty common situation. At one small place I worked, there were 5 guys with the same first name (we had Daniel, 2 Dans, Danny, Manager-Danny).

Also, if you have a common surname, he'll probably be hard to google later which does have benefits

It's the name of my fantasy 4th child!

It's not a too unusual name, everyone can pronounce it, and it's pretty cool. I only know one who is in his forties.

Don’t know any babies called Vincent, youngest I know is my age (28). Works for any age, therefore in the ‘classic’ category for me, therefore nothing to worry about.

It is currently ranked 156th...definitely nothing to worry about!! :)

This must be a joke? Why are you worried about That name? It's not like Jack or Oliver (also fine names) which have been top ten loads of times.

Oh I like Vincent - I can’t say I’ve heard many babies called that round here.
