A middle name for Eira?

Hi,

We are due dd2 soon, and have chosen the name Eira (it's a Welsh name, pronounced eye-ra). We're struggling to settle on a middle name though. Our thoughts so far are:

Eira Rose
Eira Rosemary
Eira Bethany

Does anyone have thoughts or other suggestions? Thank you Smile

Wales online was where we first found it, and they say eye-ra. So hopefully most people round here would pronounce it the way we like it.

A middle name for Eira?

Tesni. Pronounced Tess-ny

Means warmth, sunshine

Given the weather this year that you have been carrying her - snow and warmth is fitting,

I've always heard it pronounced Eye-ra where I am. I have read it's more ey-ra in mid and North Wales, so I accept some people may say it differently and she may have to tell them how she likes it pronounced, just like dd1 sometimes has to do.

I see what some of you are saying about the R names not flowing so well.

Dh likes the suggestion of Eira May, but I don't know if that's a bit weird as she'll be born in August. Something to think about!

I love the first name but dislike Bethany and the names starting in R don't flow well with the -ra ending. Names starting in any other consonant would be fine

mike it's eye-ra round these parts

heartofgold · 22/07/2018 19:59

eira gwyn :)

Eira Haf would be nice if it wasn't a bit bonkers. Snow Summer.

Yuk. Sorry. Eira is not pronounced Eye-ra. or Eye-ruh
It nearer Ey-ra.

I am Welsh but not welsh speaking.
Dd1 has a Welsh name too. I accept both their names aren't pronounced as nicely as they would be in mid or north Wales, but I still like them :)

Eira Belle

Are you Welsh?

Eira sounds odd if not pronounced properly, with the rolling R.

For that reason, I don't think R middle names go at all and Bethany is very clunky with it.

I'm not a fan of Welsh weather names as, well, they're weather, but what about Eira Haf? If you're going for Snow, you may as well go all out weather forecast!
