Little sister names?

We already have boys with traditional classic (some might say boring) names James, Edward, William, Richard type thing.

Expecting a girl. What name should we go for? I like:

Isobel
Imogen
Elinor
Lilian
Imogen
Isolde
Iseult
Beatrice
Violet
Elsie
Evelyn
Iris
Leonora
Leonore

Nope - the point is that Isolde is a German name. In the U.K. you have the choice of pronouncing it the German or the French way. The emphasis on the e is entirely German.

Heritage is directly relevant to pronunciation.

@TatianaLarina In the UK you would pronounce Isolde with the ‘uh’ sound at the end. The German may be the same, but I was referring to PPs question to prinounciation...not heritage.

I like Isobel, Imogen, Evelyn and Beatrice. I also like Eleanor but not so keen on Elinor, not sure why.

Yes. It’s almost the same, and will lead to endless confusion.

Elinor is awful anyway, Helena is very nice.

Depends how you pronounce it.

If it's pronounced Ellen-uh, then that would be a little odd.

But if you're pronouncing it El-i-NOR, then I think it's fine.

So although I prefer the Eleanor spelling, I think the Elinor works better for you.

No that’s the German pronunciation.

Y/Iseult is the original Anglo-Norman name. It was Germanised as Isolde, which pronounces the e.

Iseult is v high up our list for DC2 if it’s a girl- intention is to use the nn Sully. We’re in Ireland though so it’s a bit more widely used.

Elinor is just beautiful- it’s on my middle name list!

To PP, in French it’s IZ-Old, but the British pronounciation is Iz-Old-Uh

I think this is a BEAUTIFUL name. Girls names don’t need to ‘go’ with their brothers’ names....just choose the one you see when she’s born 😊

I love the following:
Lilian - But prefer Lillian, and think that this is how many people would presume to spell it.

Violet

Leonora

Like the following:
Imogen

Elinor - And prefer this spelling to the usual Eleanor

Elsie

Not a fan of the following:
Isobel - Much prefer Isabella. I don't like the "bel" ending.

Isolde - Looks nice, but I don't like the pronunciation and it'll get "is-old" all the time.

Iseult - See above, but multiply misspellings/mispronunciations by forty.

Beatrice - Never seen the appeal of this.

Evelyn - See above.

Iris - Reminds me of eyes and ugly flowers.

Leonore - Prefer Leonora.
