No that's not a typo - Devorah is the original biblical spelling! What do you think of it?

Haha, yes it is the name of my (Israeli) cousin. A reasonably common name there, and as a pp said, sometimes a nickname for Yonatan (Jonathan)

Yes Fanny would be the same. I only know of one who is a very old lady who I’m guessing was named before fannies were called fannies.

Yoni is indeed a real name ‘merry. I never had an issue with it till I joined MN and now it’s made it very difficult to meet an actual person called it.

I would t pronounce Devorah like Deborah with a V though. Don’t know if that matters.

I would say deb-ra or deb-uh-ra but I would say duh-VOR-a. Not sure if that’s the pronunciation you want OP.

I know a few Devorahs and it’s pronounced Duh-vaw-ruh. I like it a lot. Everyone will assume she is Jewish.

V is pronounced as a B in some other language. Maybe Spanish?

I think it’s beautiful. The biblical Devorah is a good association too. She’s a strong female figure. I would automatically assume a Devorah was Jewish and I think a lot of people would assume the same. I don’t know if you are Jewish and I don’t think it really matters if you aren’t as long as you don’t mind people asking. I’d say go for it.

Not keen. How about Deven or Devon? Not keen on those either, but prefer them to Devorah.

I would think it unusual spelling if you weren’t from a Jewish or Israeli background. All the kids with names like Deborah, Avigail, Yoni, Gavriel/Gavrielle are Jewish. To me it’s a familiar spelling but an unusual/strange choice if there is no link to the Jewish faith .

I know a French-Israeli Devora, and think it's prettier without an h on the end.

If you don't have Jewish/Israeli links though it seems a slightly odd choice, and I'd stick with the anglicised form. The 'original' spelling is in Hebrew, Devorah/Devora is just a transcription, so to me it's like naming your child Gavriel or Yakov instead of Gabriel/Jacob.

I literally saw Deborah and on re reading it said Deborah again to myself. If you like it then go for it but tbh I think they will be called Deborah accidentally a lot which may grate on you and your child x
