Hi All,
One of our favourites on our shortlist is Aaron, but how do most people pronounce it? We prefer it as 'Arr-on' but I work with an 'Air-on' and not as keen when people say that.

I know of two or three spelled Arran, all pre school age. Scottish, so I guess the thinking may be similar to Lewis or Harris, all islands.

Air-on is the original, biblical pronunciation, but in practice, I have only met Arr-ons. Both can be spelt Aaron. It's a fabulous name.

There were two Aarons in DS's class, one pronounced AIR-un and the other pronounced ARR-un. To add to the confusion there was also an Arran. The AIR-un pronunciation would be my default unless told otherwise.

I knew an Arran nearly 40 years ago and all the Aarons were pronounced Air-an, I'd be a bit Hmmif I met an Aaron who said he was called Arran. Just my private opinion though.

I know an Arran. This spelling seems to be becoming a little more popular. Pronounced as in the island. More likely to be misspelled though.

Every Aaron I've known pronounces it Arrun. Air-on sounds like it should be spelt Aeron, or something along those lines.

Thanks everyone, I prefer it spelled Aaron tbh but like you say it's going to be said differently throughout his life whichever way we say it! Maybe best to go with one of our other names which don't have this problem.

I'd always pronounce it as Air-on, as my first instinct.

Why not spell it Arron in that case? That will always be pronounced like you prefer.

I have an arron. Spelt like this as I didn't want anyone thinking it was air-ron.

If you prefer the pronunciation 'Arr-on' then you should call him Arron tbh.

Aaron is pronounced as 'Air-on', an entirely different name imo.

Both are fine but he'll have a misspelt name throughout his life no matter which one you pick.

I'd say Arr-on and have heard a couple Aarons pronounced the same. I'm Scottish if that makes a difference x

There's nothing stopping you from spelling it Arron or Aron.
