Aaron = Arrun.

I've never known an Aaron pronounced Airon, that sounds really strange to me.

I have an Arron. When we discussed the name I told my DH that I was happy to use it but only if we didn’t spell it Aaron because I didn’t want him called Air-ron.

The problem we have though is that whenever anybody writes his name they write Aaron because it’s the traditional spelling.

He’s got a lifetime ahead of him of spelling out his name which is unfortunate but it’s better than listening to him being called Air-ron all the time.

I'm from the UK and I would pronounce Keziah "Keh-zye-ah"....

Because it's a Hebrew name.

Yet people in the UK would pronounce Keziah "keh-zee-ah" when it should actually be "keh-zye-ah".

My DP is an Aaron pronounced a-ron. It's my favourite spelling of it and not sure I've come across an air-on before! He's Welsh.
Go for it, it's one of those names that could be one way or the other.

I'd pronounce it Arron if I had no guidance, and like it with the Aaron spelling - although someone put me off the name when they said it looks like you opened a baby names book and just picked the very first one!

It is though, (or always was). And who's to say what sound 'aa' makes, it's not exactly usual in English.

Those of you who've never heard any other pronunciation that 'arrun', I'd take a guess you're all under 35? And never heard Bible stories of Moses and Aaron?

It's pronounced Airon. I hate it when people spell it Aaron and say it Arron. So, if I were you, OP, I'd pick another name!

From the sample we can listen to here forvo.com/search/Aaron/en/ it seems that AIR-on is the typical USA pronunciation. (And I've met an American AIR-on who claims he was named after Elvis Aaron Presley....)
AIR-on was certainly the traditional 20th century pronunciation in England.

AHH-ron is more usual in French or German; Ah-RON in Spanish.

For what it's worth OP, I am giving my baby a fairly unheard of and uncommon name that will likely have people trying to correct it the first few times they hear it. But I love the name and love the fact he won't have 5 other boys in his school with the same name (I hope!) so would rather correct people the first time they hear it to a common name

You love it, you use it and pronounce it the way you want it to be said.

It was Air-ron for ages - I grew up in the 1970s. Then it changed to Arr-on everywhere (think it came from American TV programmes TBH).

Moses and Aaron was always pronounced Moses and Air-ron in my church.

The only Aaron I know pronounced it Arr-un. I like it but prefer the Island spelling ie Arran, and think that's very unlikely to be mispronounced.

Yes but there are a lot of situations when people see your name before they hear it.
I think Aaron will have his name misspelt. I know an Aaron, an Aaran and an Aron. You could probably get Arran, Aran, Arron, Arren and Arun too.

Of ypu think about it though you introduce yourself and your child before anyone sees the spelling, don't you.
You dont show people a placard with your name on.
There fore what ever you spell it.
You'll introduce him as Arron

Went to school with a couple of Aaron's and they were Ar-on/Arr-on.
Might be regional? I'm in Scotland and have come across a lot of Aaron's but never heard the Air-on pronunciation....

Air-on is the traditional British pronunciation (and I went to school with one, back in the 1970s). It was quite a rare name then.

The arrun pronunciation seems to have come about in recent years, and now seems to be dominant over here.

Air-on sounds far too much like Erin.

My ds is Aaron, pronounced the original biblical (correct!) way, Air-on. Unfortunately the modern pronounciation of Arran has taken over for this spelling so it frequently gets mispronounced - I do make sure I correct everyone, even if it's someone we won't necessarily see again eg doctor's receptionist, just in the interests of spreading knowledge of the correct pronounciation. When he was born I spent a lot of time saying 'Aaron, like Aaron Copland' but unfortunately there was a famous footballer (who I'd never heard of) who pronounced it Arran.

Anyway, I don't have a bee in my bonnet at all ..... But if you want Arran then call him Arran,

Air-Ron is the American pronunciation isn't it? I've only ever heard it as a-run in he U.K. I prefer the spelling Aaron too.
