Thoughts on name daffodil

I know someone with a baby bluebell. It just sounds ridiculous. People will judge as well, and definitely judge well before she gets to job interview age!
It’s all very well saying kids in the future will have all sorts of names but having a nn daff just sounds a bit naff, maybe give it as a middle name and give them a choice. There are lots of unique names out there. FWIW my mum gave me a name that although I like, many people have a certain expectation of what I will look like. When they meet me it’s almost like they are disappointed.
Flower names tend to give people an expectation of ‘pretty’ and ‘dainty’
Anything else and daffodil I imagine will be even more of a mistake!! (Not imo just saying how people react to a flower name)

I wanted to use it as my daughter's middle name but for talked out of it as her first name is already unusual. I often wish I'd go for it.

Daphne, nn Daffodil would work really well
Daphne is one of those names that’s having a bit of a comeback but isn’t popular - not an “old lady” name any more

Another thought on the nickname "Dill"... what are you going to say to stop her doing something she shouldn't? "Dill, don't!"? I think you can see where that would be headed...

In all seriousness, please don't! She'll get likened to Fifi and the Flowerpots for the rest of her life! I know that's what I thought of when I saw the name! And I have the bloody theme tune in my head too. Fuck off, Fifi!

I think it's quite alright actually. I wouldn't use it but wouldn't laugh at your child or think they were stupid because of it. I would maybe shorten to dill. Thats catchy and smart/quirky for a young girl/teenager/grown woman. Does it go with your surname because to me a weird or unusual name is fab with a great surname. Daffodil Smith, doesn't work as well as daffodil la croix for example!

I think they are beautiful...……...tho just my opinion!

Adalie: Reminds me of Athalie. I prefer Adeline nn Adalie but Adalie would work as well imo. :)

Eilidh is my favourite name but it got vetoed for my daughter because we live in England and everyone thought i was saying Hayley but dropping the H because I have a rough accent 🙈We also have an unusual surname and i didn't want her to have to spell her full name all the time. I'd definitely have an Eilidh if in Scotland though.

Stella or Phoebe are fine just don’t go too weird else she will spend the rest of her life fed up telling people how to spell her name

Not only the daffy duck thing / being daffy, but when I was at school the word 'dill' was a cause for sniggering - it can be short for dildo.

Eilidh - if in Scotland where most people will be able to spell it

Adalie as a spelling seems to be a new coinage, yet more popular than the correct spelling Adelie according to BabyCenter. But Adelie penguins(and Adalie sounds the same). Not the worst association to have but might feel like a bit of a millstone.

You will leave her open to some very bad name calling in the future. So many more lovely flower names out there but not that one.

If it's the flower you like, not the word, how about Jonquil? It's another name fro daffodil.
Or ditto Narcissa.

Jami - hate this - it sounds like 'jammy' as in covered in jam. Not good

Gracelynn - sounds very American/made up to me. I'd go with Grace.
Pheobe - fine if you spell it Phoebe. The way you've spelt it is wrong.

Adalie - sounds made up. Adeline is fine, so is Amalie, but not Adalie

I do like Stella from your second list. It would be the one I might pick.

Phoebe is OK (ish) though not to my taste. If you do use it then please spell it correctly or your child will have a lifetime of explaining themselves over and over again. It is Phoebe, not Pheobe.

I think its pretty and you get kids called 'Bluebell' etc nowdays so I dont think it will come across as odd

I actually (for maybe an afternoon) considered Dandelion nn Dandy.

Kids wanted to call guinea pig daffodil but I vetoed as a bit ridiculous...butI do like Dahlia (for a human).
