It might take some people a while to see past the 'old man' vibe, but it's a great name. My niece was given a proper old-lady name (think Ada, Olive, Phyllis type) and when it was tabled as an option I was not backward in coming forward about how much I disliked it. However, her having it has absolutely converted me to it, and now it totally suits her as a little girl. When the name Sidney is on a super-cute toddler, it'll totally work.

Dislike hugely, sorry. Personal opinion though, so not particularly relevant to you (you may well hate my kid’s name!). Agree with pp that it is an ‘old man chic’ name that I’ve heard a lot more recently so I’m not sure it would be as unusual as you think.

No. It’s just a creepy old mans name, all I can think of is Sid James.

I think it’s one of the ‘old man names’ that has had a bit of a trendy revival - like Stanley, Vincent etc. I quite like it and think it would suit a cute toddler or an adult man.

Perfectly nice name although I have met a few female Sidneys. But as you say it’s not massively popular so there aren’t hordes of them yet it’s a fairly well known name

I like. I know a female Sydney (American) but no male Sidneys. Would you call him Sid?
