I hate old man names, like Stanley etc. No idea why that name is so popular.

I went to school with a Sidney so I don’t see it as an old man name. I quite like it. Although one of our fish is called Sidney Grin

I know two toddler Sidney's!!!!
Cute name x

Picknickers · 12/07/2018 23:20

I am very sorry but it's the name I dislike most out of any name. It sounds so sour and it rhymes with kidney. Illogical but I detest it.

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2018 20:26

Well, it's a lot better than Sidney for a girl.

starspangledbanner · 12/07/2018 19:28

Love it for a girl - hate it for a boy.

Stanley is way nicer

Dreamingofkfc · 12/07/2018 17:15

It is fairly popular. I'm not keen but it's better than some names out there that are ridiculously popular and I've no idea why

TroubledLichen · 12/07/2018 14:52

Hate it. Never met a boy Sidney but I do know 2 girls called Sydney so for me it’s both feminine and ugly. Your baby your choice though, if you love it that’s all that matters.

Gets me vote ✅

Sid Snot 'ere will be known to people of a certain generation. You get a lot of snot with babies and children OP, so I wouldn't let that worry you.Grin

There's also Sid on Cbeebies of course - we like him!

HJL2506 · 12/07/2018 12:40

I'm expecting my second son in October and we are calling him Sidney. Beautiful name.

I'm in a group on Facebook where a mum had her baby boy a few days before and he didn't have a name and asked for suggestions. The name Sidney came up 6 times. I was shocked as it's not in the top 100! I've loved the name for over 10 years. My eldest is called Stanley. Who cares if nobody likes your child's name. Some people don't like the top 10 names, everybody's taste is different.

It is getting more popular by the sounds of it 😫

FredSheeran · 12/07/2018 10:48

My first thought would be the rather revolting Sid the Sexist from Viz, but I'm old and this probably won't be an issue by the time he's in school!

daisypond · 12/07/2018 10:40

I rather like it. Yes.

Joeybee · 12/07/2018 10:38

I really like Sidney for a boy. Not sure why it isn't too popular right now. Although I wouldn't let that put you off. It is a lovely name. Also a lot of 'old-man' names like Albert, Stanley, Wilfred etc are gaining popularity again now, and Sidney fits right in with that.

Bringcoffee · 12/07/2018 10:24

Love it!

Cosmoa · 12/07/2018 10:22

I really love it Smile

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 09:58

I'd probably think it was a girl. It would make me think of Sid James, which is not a good thing.

RedDwarves · 12/07/2018 09:52

Love it.

I would use it myself, but living in close proximity to Sydney city makes me question it. Having said that, I had a Sidney in the family, went to school with a female Sidney, and one of my colleagues has a two year old Sidney, also female. So clearly it's irrelevant!

Wingingitdaily · 12/07/2018 09:40

My two week old is called Sidney we call him Sid and he already really suits it. We loved that it wasn't very common and it was a family name so meant more.

binkyblinky · 12/07/2018 09:32

I think it's a lovely, lovely name, but I like the spelling Sydney ❤️

londonloves · 12/07/2018 09:22

Love it. We have a cousin n Sid, he's a total dude.

Lotsofdigestives · 12/07/2018 09:20

I know a couple of little Sids. I can’t warm to it.

DramaAlpaca · 12/07/2018 09:16

It's one of the few 'old man' names I like, along with Stanley.

Missbrick1 · 12/07/2018 09:15

i think of Sidney Poitier who is super cool.

Peachbubble · 12/07/2018 09:13

I quite like it

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 12/07/2018 08:59

It's definitely a yes from me OP. I really like it. A bit different, will stand the test of time and suit him at all ages, not too many, but not too 'out there'.

Best of luck Flowers
