We think we might have chosen Kate as our top fave name, but would probably want Katherine on the BC (I know we dont necessarily need to but at the moment DH is keen to). But what do you think of Katherine and how would you spell it?
Katherine, Catherine or Kathryn?

I like Katherine best, and it makes most sense for Kate IMO. Lovely names OP.

I have literally never heard anyone call a Katherine/Catherine "Kath-reeen." Confused

PuppyMonkey · 11/07/2018 13:14

I have a sister called Katherine, known as Kathy. So that's my vote.

LuMarie · 11/07/2018 13:12

I prefer Catherine, it's a softer and prettier spelling for me.

Any name you choose to call you child day to day/they use will stick.

I know an Etienne who we call Bob. I have no idea why, but that's his name:)

HoratioNightboy · 11/07/2018 13:07

The ones I know are all spelt Catherine, so that's the default spelling I would go for. I guess pronunciation might be a factor for some people, as the -ine ending is often pronounced "een" and the -yn ending as "inn".

Fun fact: there 624 different spellings of Catherine in the Scottish records!

Ever fancied the nickname Cath? That will probably stick with the C spelling, or you could go with Katie?

kaytee87 · 11/07/2018 12:55

Katharine

MikeUniformMike · 11/07/2018 10:59

I was going to say Katharine too.

PippilottaLongstocking · 11/07/2018 10:57

I think the only ones I know are Katharine rather than Katherine! But definitely a K spelling to go with Kate, and personally I think the ‘ine’ ending is nicer than ‘yn’ but they are both lovely

StrawberryCat · 11/07/2018 10:52

Yes i think i agree with you there - K to go with Kate. DH is leaning torwards Catherine Confused

Katherine, so that the initials remain the same.
Just Kate is fine.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/07/2018 10:51

Definitely K so same as Kate.

peachypetite · 11/07/2018 10:50

Catherine

starryeyed19 · 11/07/2018 10:50

I prefer it with either of the K spellings.
