We had decided on Sophie for a name and my OH has just told me it is an ex girlfriends name!!!! Wtf! He tried to justify it saying it was a daft under 16 relationship but I'm still raging!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Harrykanesrightsock · 10/07/2018 14:35

I think Furious would be Lovley as a middle name with maybe Captain as the first.

lynmilne65 · 10/07/2018 14:30

Grow up

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 10/07/2018 14:21

How about Furia if it's a girl? 🙄

holycityzoo · 10/07/2018 14:13

Oh bugger I was so excited for a moment.
I was coming on to say yes yes I love it.
I had a huge crush on Furious Styles from boys in the hood. Cool guy with a cool name.

BrutusMcDogface · 10/07/2018 14:12

My DH vetoed every name he had a 'relationship' with. Fuck me, I'm surprised our kid has a name...

Grin
QueenOfMyWorld · 10/07/2018 14:07

Whar about Sofia?

Musicalstatues · 10/07/2018 14:02

My eldest has the same name as my ex who I dated when I was 18/19. I don’t give it a second thought!
Our youngest has the same name as dh’s old dog!!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 10/07/2018 14:00

It's a lovely name, are you really going to let someone from long ago blight it, how your OH must wish he had kept his mouth shut.

Roomba · 10/07/2018 13:54

I think Furious is a bloody fantastic name! Sounds a bit like a wrestler or someone from a superhero TV show though...

I really wouldn't overthink the Sophie thing. If you like the name, use it! Your Sophie will very very quickly become the only person associated with that name in your minds after she arrives. I've only just realised when I read this thread that DS2 has the same name as a bf I had when I was 14. Never even occurred to me before today and certainly no one else has remarked on it ever. It's not like your DH's ex wife is called Sophie or something...

SleightOfMind · 10/07/2018 13:36

This was going to be my best day in a long while.

Boys freed from cave, (Elon Musk making a public twat of himself in the process as a bonus).

Brexiteers in disarray,

And a baby called Furious.

I’ll have to settle for two out of three. Smile

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2018 13:34

You can't call a baby Furious. How about Fumming? (Yes with that youneeq spelling!)
He knew someone once called Sophie? How fucking dare he and what a bitch. Confused

clumsyduck · 10/07/2018 13:31

FFS

Imagine having an actual problem

Rednaxela · 10/07/2018 13:27

Dammit thought the baby was called Furious!

DS has the same name as an ex of mine. DH knows. Also same name as a couple of celebrities, my ex boss's son, 2 colleagues... and a neighbour... Not an issue!

LunaTrap · 10/07/2018 13:25

Our DS has the same name as a childhood boyfriend of mine and my DP couldn't care less. In fact I can't even remember if I mentioned it before or after we used it. Furious is a bit much, it's not like it's his ex wife's name!

dw23 · 10/07/2018 13:20

I'm in the minority here I think but I totally agree with OP, even though it was a teenage relationship, I would never name my child after an ex of my husbands or suggest that any of my exs names, that's really weird and he should have let it be known immediately so you didn't get attached to it. I feel your pain. I wouldn't be furious as such but I understand why you're upset you now can't use the name.

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2018 13:19

In too was hoping for a baby called Furious.
Call her Fury.

LastOneDancing · 10/07/2018 12:57

Your DH once knew a girl called Sophie?
This is not a thing to upset yourself over. Everyone knows someone called Sophie.

When your Sophie has been grumpy all day, cried 349 times that night and will only sleep on your chest like a tiny sticky hot water bottle, believe me, the other one will be a million miles from anyone's thoughts Smile

liquidrevolution · 10/07/2018 12:53

DD has the same name as an ex of DHs. Didn't realise I had to be furious about it.Confused

We chose the name because we liked it, it worked with our ridiculous surname and we liked the meaning.

CAAKE · 10/07/2018 12:47

In hindsight we really should have called ds FURIOUS.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2018 12:45

Track the bitch down on FB and insist that she changes it
I would be fummin Hun

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/07/2018 12:43

If ex boyfriends' names were out, it would severely limit my choice of baby names!

DeckSofa · 10/07/2018 12:37

Sophurius?

Yutes · 10/07/2018 12:24

What about Sophia?
Or Sylvie?

Don’t be raging. Your baby isn’t here yet and she won’t know that she shares a name with her fathers ex. She’ll share a name with a lot of people.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/07/2018 12:24

If you backtrack on a name you love because of an age old teenage relationship, you are NUTS.

Nuts.

haribosmarties · 10/07/2018 12:22

Sophie is an incredibly popular name id imagine around half of the male population of the uk have an ex named Sophie.
Its a lovely name I think. Just use it if you love it. Its not like its the name of an ex wife!! just a teenage girlfriend.
I had the name of an ex on our baby names list and we both loved it (not a serious ex relationship) but we didnt use it in the end because it was in the top ten names for last year.
