We had decided on Sophie for a name and my OH has just told me it is an ex girlfriends name!!!! Wtf! He tried to justify it saying it was a daft under 16 relationship but I'm still raging!!

She wasn't a serious girlfriend...
He probably just wanted to be honest (or maybe he honestly hadn't thought of it?)

My first "boyfriend's" name was probably Benedict... But I'm honestly not sure. And I'd still use the name... (Just like I'd still use the name of my childhood "fiancé")

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 16:12

I like that. It sounds ideal for a teenager. Is there a "tidyyourbedroom' too. I think I might have been called Youtreatthisplacelikeahotel at that age

Littlechocola · 12/07/2018 16:02

MikeUniformMike I’ll just call him ‘getintheshower’.

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 15:35

Littlechocola, you can't steal the name Furious now can you, it's just not fair, and how are you going to tell your ds aged 17 that he's now got a new name.

whiskeysourpuss · 12/07/2018 15:28

I'm feeling extremely grateful that all my ex's have shit names 🤣

Littlechocola · 12/07/2018 10:39

I love the name Sophie. Couldn’t care less if dp had a teenage love of the same name.

I’ve just realised that one of my dc has the name of a teenage ex. I hadn’t realised. So thanks op, now I have to decide whether to tell dp or change a 17 yo name? Fecking furious!

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 10:30

I agree with DelphiniumBlue. Perhaps the only solution is to give the baby a yoonique name. Furious perhaps. or Notmydadsexgirlfriendsname.

AESLEHC · 12/07/2018 10:29

C'mon OP you can still call your baby Sophie. Under 16s relationship is nothing unless you end up together Hmm

whiskeysourpuss · 12/07/2018 10:26

Name and shame her.

Her names is Sophie... I hope she's suitably shamed by these events & gives herself a good talking to for having the audacity to be called Sophie the name stealing bitch

LuluJakey1 · 12/07/2018 00:07

We could not have called DS, Stephen, Pete , Dan, James, Joe, Max, John, Hal, Rhys, etc except we did call him one of those names and I had not until now even remembered I had a boyfriend when I was 18 called it. I have just told DH who said 'MMMM' as he was reading on his ipad. Totally unbothered.
FFS, get a grip.

LuluJakey1 · 12/07/2018 00:00

Do get a grip.

DelphiniumBlue · 11/07/2018 23:59

Better check the names of all his other girlfriends.

SPOFS · 11/07/2018 23:57

It's quite clear that this 16 year old did this to spite you. I'd hunt her down and demand that she changes her name. Name and shame her.

MrsBobDylan · 11/07/2018 23:52

I first heard DC2's name when I met a friend's then boyfriend when we were 16. I only met him the once and we never spoke let alone dated.

DH always tells people it's the name of one of my 'many ex-boyfriends' just for kicks. I always get embarrassed and inadvertently add credibility to his wind up!

Op, just use the name you like. There are lots of things to stress about while pregnant, baby's name shouldn't be added to the list.

FoxAndBear · 11/07/2018 19:56

The world doesn't need any more Sophie's, what a dull name.
He's done you a favour. Maybe pick something more interesting.

beela · 11/07/2018 19:39

@pinkprincess1978 same here! Vetoed for dc1 because he had an ex with that name.

I even tried again to get it on the shortlist for dc2 in case he had forgotten but apparently not.

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:31

It depends on the context though. If OP lives in a small town where everyone knows everyone, then I can see why she would feel weird about it. Even though I don’t think it’s an issue at all and if you love the name, you should use it. I didn’t use the name Rose for a sort-of similar reason (I wanted to use but OH refused as he had a teenage girlfriend called Rose) and now I massively regret it. Teenage years are fine but I can still see why OP would be feeling the way she does.

strawberrypenguin · 11/07/2018 19:19

It was a relationship he had when he was a under 16. Not a long term serious relationship. In the nicest way, you need to get a grip. There is no reason you can't use the name, you're making a drama out of nothing

Timeisslippingaway · 11/07/2018 19:13

I have the same name as my partners ex who he did with just before me and they were pretty serious. She also lives in the same town as me even although he didn't originally come from here, he did however live her with her first. Now he lives here with me. I got over that 😂

Pinkprincess1978 · 11/07/2018 19:10

Under 16? That's not a serious ex. My husband wouldn't consider a name I loved as apparently he had a gf called when he was 12 🙄

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:07

Although I do like Sophurious. I can’t help but sing it in the style of Mis-Teeq/Scandalous.

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:05

I think you’re all being a bit harsh to someone who is clearly hormonal and asking for a bit of support!

OP, are you still pregnant or is the baby actually here and named (or unnamed!) now?

AUsernameRequired · 11/07/2018 06:33

My firstborn shares the name of an ex.

It's a lovely name, that's why 😆

It's not my child's fault my ex was a user!

Neverwrestlewithapig · 10/07/2018 23:57

Definitely Sophurious.

Sofury is too much like sofa-ry like she’s got the look of a couch about her...

Picknickers · 10/07/2018 23:45

Sophurious is absolute genius 😂
