Unusual but not weird names

Still searching for names. We would like something that isn't popular and unlikely to be in school with another. But nothing too weird that we spend the whole time telling people how to spell it/ pronounce it etc..

Olivia, Sophie and Isabella are not by any stretch of the imagination unusual names at the moment.

Tansy. I met one who would now be about 60. I don't think I've ever met another. Lovely name, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, no bad associations.

Ivo. I know one who's about 60 now and know of another who's in his teens. Not many others about. Good strong name, albeit with the possibility of confusion with Ivor/Ivan, I suppose.

I’ll add a name I can’t use for a girl, we are having boy as it’s already in our family but I love it, unusual but classy, Thalia, Tally for nn. Not a long “th” but like “talia”. I love it. I’ve only ever heard that one. Boys good luck horrendous task we’ve only just decided & he’s due in 2 weeks!

We have a Helena. Seems to be more rare then I thought. We liked that it's a classic but not overly pretentious name.

For example I know lots of Sarah's , Rachel's, Andrews etc. I don't want a popular name be it in 2018 or 30 years ago.

A few generations earlier then maybe so long as it's not come back round just yet

I do like old fashioned names, something that won't date really but nothing that's 'in fashion' now really. I'd like a name that's only the one in the school but I don't want anything like Jane or Deborah or Robert, Andrew etc

flumpybear we have a Tabitha also. There's 2 in her class. Out of 7 girls!!! Plus, there was 1 a year older, 1 at an activity she does and another friend of a friend. I didn't hope for unique but I had hoped for no more than 1 in any group, to avoid the use of surnames like her father and I had all through school!

"Unusual but not weird" is what many (most?) people want. So they come up with an "unusual but not weird" name, only to find that lots of other people have had the same idea - hence names that seem to you "unusual but not weird" ending up as popular names - that's the zeitgeist for you. To be just ahead of the curve, I'd look at names that were popular in the 1930s/'40s. Or pick something very classical from the Roman or Greek myths, etc. Or something like a plant name, but not one of the commonly used ones like Lily - go for something like Tulip, etc. Or is that heading into "weird"?
